Re: PESO 2008 - 46 - GDG
In his declining years Picasso would draw three sweeping lines on a napkin, sigh it and sell it for a million dollars. A technique doesn't imply repetition, it implies repeatable results. In Picasso's case a minimalist Piccaoest image and a large paycheck. Pollack had a technique too also guaranteeing a consistent results. ...and they're both dead, but you didn't get that... The Musee Picasso is my favorite Paris museum. :-) Godfrey On Mar 24, 2008, at 3:37 AM, Bob W wrote: > Picasso never repeated himself, and his art is certainly not dead. RE: PESO 2008 - 46 - GDG
Picasso never repeated himself, and his art is certainly not dead. I have an edition of his sketchbooks, plus several books of his drawings and paintings. What really stands out for me is the energetic creativity and constant change and experimentation, allied with astonishing discipline, single-mindedness, self-criticism and knowledge of art history. I can thoroughly recommend the book "Je suis le cahier de Pablo Picasso" to anyone who is interested in seeing how he worked up his ideas into their final form. A visit to the Musee Picasso in Paris is also time well spent - not least because it is such a beautiful building. The question becomes is it repeatable. If so a new art form is born.
