RE: Pentax Spotmatic F production figures??
JCO wrote: >Too bad they wont service a single one of them. Really? I received a list from Pentax with service prices on all cameras from the Asahiflex and onwards + lenses. I guess that parts can be hard to find for older equipment but as far as I can tell they still service them around here at least. Pål - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. IMHO, a near mint to mint chrome spotmatic for $100-150 has got to be one of the greatest photographic values out there. BTW, I just scored another MINT black one off ebay for $275. What a jewel. The black ones are so pretty when theyre mint with no brassing...I wonder how much it would cost to make a spotmatic today in Japan JCO - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Ppro... I know EXACTLY waht you mean! It's such a toss up; IMHO, split image is easier with bright subjects and well defined edges and microprism works better with softer and more dimly lit subjects. I won't do anything until I test out the factory screen. Maybe I'll like it well enough and won't change it out. Brendan - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Pentax Spotmatic F production figures??
Hi Brendan, I've never shot any color through the Takumar lenses, and I always use the deepest lens hoods possible, so flare's never been a consideration. Yeah, I do like some of the older cameras. Anything newer than an LX is too modern for me, and these days I find myself moving further back in time. The last roll I shot was with a 67yo Leica ... it needs a lot of work but I was amazed at how smooth, solid, and quiet it still is. The SP Fs here don't have the split image screen, although it might be a nice upgrade. Don't worry, be happy ... the meters in those old cameras weren't noted for great accuracy, IAC. And so what if the meter's off. You'll be running a test roll or two through that puppy to get it calibrated to your style and needs anyway - right? Why bother to use the meter at all? Take one more step back and go meterless, or use a hand-held meter. You're located down in San Mateo, aren't you? We ought to get together some time. Re: Pentax Spotmatic F production figures??
Thanks Shel... I somehow thought you'd be the guy with those figures. I can't wait to take mine out, should be here tomorrow. Seems you can't go wrong with a all manual, metal bodied camera! Tell me, have you noticed any difference between the Super-Multi-Coated Taks and the later SMC tak's color-wise or flare-wise? Also, I understand you can get the split-image conversion done to these babies, have you done this or know someone who has? I would worry that the metering would be off if the screen is brighter. I know Camera Repair Service says they adjust the meter as part of the conversion but that worries me... Brendan - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Pentax Spotmatic F production figures??
I just looked it up in Gerjan's book - the number he gives is 603,885, but the figure isn't broken down between chrome and black. BTW, I've got a black one and I once thought about selling it ... but it's still here . It's nicely brassed, and mechanically perfect, and it sure gives a lot of pleasure those times that I use it, especially with the Super-Multi-Coated Takumar lenses. It's later edition from what I understand is the earlier batch, with a SN over 4,910,000. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Does any one know approx. how many of the > Spotmatic F's were produced? re: Pentax Spotmatic F production figures??
Hey guys, I've enjoyed a lot of the recent threads about Spotties on the list. Some good info and commentary on the lenses. This got me thinking: Does any one know approx. how many of the Spotmatic F's were produced? Also, of these, how many were black body versions? I have seen lots of black spots but few black spot f's. Perhaps it's because folks covet them so much that they're rarely up for sale? Regards, Brendan "recently Spottie enabled" MacRae - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
