RE: first post XP-2 and PAW
Exactly. When I first commented on the photo I wanted to see more detail in the highlights. I haven't totally changed my mind, but I do see how the highlights give it a somewhat haunting image, which works in this photo. ...of course, I'd ~never~ say that I like blown out highlights in someone else's photo, just because I've taken so many photos with the highlights inadvertantly blown out by overexposure, after which I've pawned off the print as artsty. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2069022 Uh, yeah, I was going for the 'haunting' look. Re: first post XP-2 and PAW
Frank ... too static ... this artsy fartsy phase of yours is gonna get you a lot of commissions for OOF work and photos with no highlight detail. Re: first post XP-2 and PAW
Hi, Glad you could join in the PAW. I took a quick look at your photo and was concerned about the lack of detail in the highlights, the area outside. It detracts from the photo, imo. I like what you're doing though, and would love to see more pics of the old mill. Documenting these places is, perhaps, a very important thing to do ... keeping a record of community and history. Why are you unsure you'll be continuing to use XP-2? shel Clint Austin wrote: Hello, My name is Joseph Austin, I have lurked here for quite a while. Shel's photo and comments about XP-2 (plus the aquisition of a film scanner finally)!! led me to post my first PAW. I purchased XP-2 exclusively for scanning. After hearing horror stories about scanning regular black and white ( plus no longer having access to a darkroom) XP-2 fit the niche for me. Still I am not sure whether I will continue using this film. However I think this roll was alright. RE: first post XP-2 and PAW
The contrast might have been a just little lower, allowing the exterior to have a little more detail, but I like the shot. I couldn't agree more, Frank. That we all have different opinions is why this is fun. As for blown out highlights, sometimes they add to the photo, sometimes they don't. Adds to a ghostly feel appropriate to an abandoned factory, IMHO. Go figure, eh?
