RE: just bought a photo printer
Epson premium glossy, once you know what you are doing. Their Lustre paper is nice, too. I find the Epson stuff works the best, although some of the Lumijet textured stuff is kind of fun. For test prints, and screwing around, go to Costco and you can get packs of 100 Epson Photo paper for about 20 bucks. It is quite nice, but has a tendency to fade. Oh, yeah; start looking for a second job to support your ink habit. A great printer; you'll have lots of fun. C. Date: Wed, 14 Aug 2002 14:46:13 -0400 From: "J. C. Found one online for $417 before rebate so net cost is finally reasonable. Question: Can anybody recommend a good paper (glossy) for doing color and BW printing with this machine? Hi JCO, Congrats on the new printer. You're going to love it. Epson Professional Photo Paper in glossy finish yields excellent results. The colors are more accurate than Ilford or Kodak glossy. However, Ilford makes a super "watercolor style" paper. It's called Ilford Fine Art Paper, and it yields beautiful prints. It's also quite expensive. A good bargain paper is Epson Archival Matte. It's a flat matte finish paper, and it produces very nice prints. Paul Stenquist "J. C. O'Connell" wrote: > > Heads up guys. > > Epson is now offering a $100 rebate > on their 1280 printer. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the world of digital printing! I've found the Espon Premium Glossy paper works well as do the Ilford Galerie papers (I've used the "Smooth Gloss" - equivalent to the Epson Premium Glossy - and the "Classic Pearl"). My all time favorite isn't glossy at all though: It's the Ilford Fine Art paper. I do *all* my own prints on this paper. -- Mark Roberts www.robertstech.com - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Hi JCO, I'm actually pretty happy with the Epson Glossy Photo Paper (the stuff that runs $10 to $13 or so for 20 sheets of 8x10). There's a Premium Glossy which I haven't used, so I'm not sure how different of a look it will have. The Epson Glossy out of my Epson 820 printer looks very much like a conventional print. I know some folks have said they don't generally like the Epson papers, so your mileage may vary. Not an answer to the question you asked, but Mark Roberts showed me some 11x14's he did on some Ilford rag paper, back while he was still in town here. Man, that stuff looked great! Of course, you get what you pay for, and that stuff was something like $5 a sheet. A little out of my range, for sure! Hope this helps.
