Re: question about putting pix on memory cards ...
Yep, you can load any pictures on a memory card and carry it/them to your photo dealer - I use this all the time to carry all kind of stuff around, sometimes photos to print, too. good luck (you seem to need it) Sam - Original Message - From: "Ann Sanfedele" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, October 25, 2004 8:00 PM Subject: question about putting pix on memory cards ... from the computer.. Excellent point. Some of the newer stuff is packaged to work with XP and you would have to download a driver from the manufacturer's web site to use it with earlier versions. Bill Gates really wants you to update your system, Ann, and he's got a lot of helpers trying to twist your arm. Meantime, if I can do it right to the card from the computer when card is in camera I'd love it Haven't had a chance to follow Caveman's instructions yet - thanks everyone for input on this - as always, the collective smarts on this list never ceases to impress ann

That's pretty much how I work here too, my partner uses a USB memory key or Muvo to shuffle files between work and home and I either use an external HD or my CF cards to shuffle data between friends etc however I back up now to DVD. I still prefer to write a closed CD of only the data I need printed though. In any case I'm sure a few of you have a decent unused CD-R drive you could send to Ann, I have a few but unfortunately the postage costs would be a bit prohibitive for a drives of that size. Actually, memory cards may very well replace CD's and other discs for all data transfer. I use CF cards to transfer files, including photos, between the computers in my house. My wife's office is now using CFs instead of discs for transfer and temp storage. I have a 80 gig USB 2.0 hard drive and two CF card readers that I use between my desktop and notebook computers so I only use CDs for permanent storage. Re: question about putting pix on memory cards ...
With the camera connected to the computer: 1. Start Canon ZoomBrowser 2. Click "Camera & Memory Card" 3. Click "Upload images" 4. Select the images 5. Click "Open Camera Window" Ann Sanfedele mused: That is, can I download stuff from my memory card in my digicam, edit the files, saving in jpg and upload them onto a little flash card either in a , for instance san disk card reader or right into the camera?
Re: question about putting pix on memory cards ...
No you're not dreaming. I frequently do this, especially if I just want some quickie prints. A file is a file is a file, whether it's a .jpg or plain text and your card reader with a flash card in it, as far as your computer is concerned, is nothing more than another storage disk Just go to Windows Explorer and *copy* the pix from wherever they are on your hard drive to the flash drive. Also, for someone who doesn't necessarily carry a purse, the cards are more convenient to take on the trip to the store. (They're pocketable; CDs are less so.) I would transfer the files with the card reader rather than the camera though. ER
RE: question about putting pix on memory cards ...
If I understand your question, which seems most discombobulated, the answer is yes. IOW, you want to edit your files in the computer and download then to a memory card, take the card to a lab and have them make a CD. No. The flash card shows up as an extra disk drive, and you can treat it just like that. Copy files to it (even non-image files), etc. I've done that to give an (edited) image to a friend with a printer that has a built-in CF reader. The one thing I would recommend is re-formatting the card before you use it again in the camera for anything other than copying files to or from it.
RE: question about putting pix on memory cards ...
If your camera appears as a drive letter when plugged in like most of them do then yes, you can copy back to the card in the camera or in a reader. Don't remember what camera you have but most new ones just appear as a disk to the computer. I would try it with a card with no important pics on it to be sure but I used to take them of the Olympus 5050, edit them and then put them back on the card to take to the printer.
