Yep, you can load any pictures on a memory card and carry it/them to your
photo dealer - I use this all the time to carry all kind of stuff around,
sometimes photos to print, too.

good luck (you seem to need it)

Excellent point. Some of the newer stuff is packaged to work with XP and
you would have to download a driver from the manufacturer's web site to use
it with earlier versions. Bill Gates really wants you to update your
system, Ann, and he's got a lot of helpers trying to twist your arm.

Windows 98 doesn't have built-in support for card readers and removable
storage volumes. You have to install a driver to get them to work. If
you're using Windows 98 you should make sure you buy a card reader that
comes with appropriate drivers.

I have to get the proper card reader - as I have Windoze 98 (NOT

one I bought at first didn't go. Meantime, if I can do it right to
the card
from the computer when card is in camera I'd love it

That's pretty much how I work here too, my partner uses a USB memory key or
Muvo to shuffle files between work and home and I either use an external HD or
my CF cards to shuffle data between friends etc however I back up now to DVD.

I still prefer to write a closed CD of only the data I need printed though.

In any case I'm sure a few of you have a decent unused CD-R drive you could
send to Ann, I have a few but unfortunately the postage costs would be a bit
prohibitive for a drives of that size. Come on team...

Actually, memory cards may very well replace CD's and other discs for all
data transfer. I use CF cards to transfer files, including photos, between
the computers in my house. My wife's office is now using CFs instead of
discs for transfer and temp storage. I have a 80 gig USB 2.0 hard drive and
two CF card readers that I use between my desktop and notebook computers so
I only use CDs for permanent storage.

With the camera connected to the computer:
1. Start Canon ZoomBrowser
2. Click "Camera & Memory Card"
3. Click "Upload images"
4. Select the images
5. Click "Open Camera Window"

No you're not dreaming. I frequently do this, especially if I just want
some quickie prints. A file is a file is a file, whether it's a .jpg or
plain text and your card reader with a flash card in it, as far as your
computer is concerned, is nothing more than another storage disk Just go to
Windows Explorer and *copy* the pix from wherever they are on your hard
drive to the flash drive.

Indeed, you should be able to transfer the edited images from the computer to
the card using the card reader, and in fact I sometimes do that when I want to
carry a specific group of pictures to Wal*Mart for printing but I don't want
that group of pictures permanently together on a CD. Also, for someone who
doesn't necessarily carry a purse, the cards are more convenient to take on the
trip to the store. (They're pocketable; CDs are less so.)
I would transfer the files with the card reader rather than the camera though.

If I understand your question, which seems most discombobulated, the answer
is yes.
IOW, you want to edit your files in the computer and download then to a
memory card, take the card to a lab and have them make a CD.

No. The flash card shows up as an extra disk drive,
and you can treat it just like that. Copy files to
it (even non-image files), etc.

I've done that to give an (edited) image to a friend
with a printer that has a built-in CF reader.

The one thing I would recommend is re-formatting the
card before you use it again in the camera for anything
other than copying files to or from it.

RE: question about putting pix on memory cards ...

2004-10-25 Thread Don Sanderson
If your camera appears as a drive letter when plugged in
like most of them do then yes, you can copy back to the card
in the camera or in a reader.
Don't remember what camera you have but most new ones just appear
as a disk to the computer.
I would try it with a card with no important pics on it to be sure
but I used to take them of the Olympus 5050, edit them
and then put them back on the card to take to the printer.
