Re: Another review comes online...
Not an endearing review. He covers all the relevant points I think, both good and bad, but seems to do so from an unfavourable predisposition. Cant say any of his facts are incorrect, but everything seems tinged with bias, and I don't agree with many of his handling complaints which is purely subjective. I think I am fairly unbaised (not being as pro-Pentax as many), and, yes, in my opinion it's a biased review. He says the *istD has nothing special to offer, then comments the metering is the best he's ever seen. Duh. I think that is something Pentax has always tended to excel in. Don't know that much about it, but it seems that way. So curious, I went to read the 10D review. Funny, in some ways the pictures of the *istD were in many ways better (which surprised me, actually). Or at least, they were definitely put to a harder test, a higher standard -- more light and dark and contrast. (BTW - I'm not that happy with either 10D or *istD -- just from what I am reading and seeing -- i.e. reaffirming that I think I am pretty unbiased.) Conclusion: I couldn't ever take this guy seriously. dpreview is better. Marnie aka Doe

It isn't serious review. For example this text: ... This is a Nikon oriented design seen on N/80 derived bodies (including the Fuji S2 and Kodak 14N), and I dislike it. ... Typical Canon guy... Gasha Brendan wrote: He has been to pro canon for some time now, some things he bashes the pentac for the canon still suffers from ( usb 1.1 ) and what we praise ( the shutter release collar ) we praise, the other things we aldready know about, his canno is superior tone rings loud and clear in here. This is Pentaxes first to market dslr, they hit a base run, they are up there in the middle of the pack, what did he expect? Hell at least we got a DLSR and one that is up to stuff with the rest, now I'll whine and complain when the DII isn't better ( thats what I'm waiting to buy to get into digital lol )

Well, to be fair, he doesn't say that it's a bad design, just that he personally doesn't like it. I don't have a problem with that... I hate most Canon designs. :) chris

As for the gripes he has with it, he might have read my post to the list a week ago. Still haven't sold mine tho...:-) Jostein - Pictures at: http://oksne.net - - Original Message - From: Rob Brigham [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, November 05, 2003 12:24 AM Subject: Another review comes online... Cant say any of his facts are incorrect, but everything seems tinged with bias, and I don't agree with many of his handling complaints which is purely subjective. Unfortunately one of the major plus points of the ist (its size) is one of his major gripes so it was never going to win him over I am afraid. I still cant believe how people moan about AA batts too - this is a fabulous advantage. I can have a backup set of rechargeables for £5 and an emergency set of liths which last 10 years without losing their charge. Plus I can use the batts in my flash or nick the batts from there as yet another backup. I don't know how the hell he got so few shots with a set of Alkalines as he says either - must have been a c**p brand. When I chose the missus digicam for Xmas, I was soo pleased that I could get one which took AAs and CF cards - great interchangeability with the ist, and the right choce regardless. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what Mr R says if I like it but his tone was very sour for some reason - perhaps it was just the way I read it, but it seemed almost like a mission or vendetta to shoot it down. I used to get hung up on which one might or might not have the nth degree better resolution etc - until I got the chance to order one. The reviews werent out yet, there was no feedback from owners yet either, but I didn't care anymore because I liked it and it didn't matter if CanujiKon xxx was better or worse, because they don't take my glass.

He's probably just afraid Canon will take the 1Ds loaner away from him. (grin) Matjaz Osojnik wrote: Brendan wrote, re Luminous Reichmann: He has been to pro canon for some time now... Suppose the only reason he likes *any* Pentax cameras is that Canon doesn't do medium format? Yeep, that is what comes to mind. But never mind, really. A typical review from a typical Canon guy. Not the first and the the last biased review out there. Matja -- graywolf http://graywolfphoto.com You might as well accept people as they are, you are not going to be able to change them anyway.
