They were an extra US$ 5 or so when the MX was new.
Of course, we frugal Yank's bought only the silver ones.
So the black are more rare and 'professional' over here.

I was so frugal that I bought an ME instead of an MX, in silver of course!

The black ones are not only less common than the silver ones, they're much
harder to find in *really good condition* because the black finish was so
much less durable than the chrome finish.

MX Question. (Was Re: Black MX Body Ex+)

2001-06-25 Thread mike y.

New to the pentax world so forgive me if this is an obvious answer but What
are the main differences between the MX and my K-1000. From a
user-interface perspective, they look almost identical -except for what I
assume to be a self timer on the front...

Externally, from a user-interface perspective, the MX is *much* smaller
than the K1000 and has a self-timer and depth-of-field preview (push the
self-timer lever in towards the lens mount).

Through the viewfinder, the MX displays the selected shutter speed and aperture
and has a series of 5 LEDs instead of a needle to show over/under exposure.

Functionally, the MX has user-interchangable focusing screens, a much more
sensitive and linear Gallium-Arsenide Photodiode light meter and accepts
either a 2 fps auto-winder or 5 fps motor drive.
