Lon, I bought mine off KEH in EX+ condition. I don't think aperture blades are
sluggish. It seems just fine actually. I have no problems with aperture
performance. I am more concerned about optical quality...

The M 35 f2.8 is renowned for having sluggish aperature
blades. I took mine in to get it fixed, at a cost of
$35. Well worth it. This prime is much better than
my A 35-70 f4 at 35mm. I won't part with the M, nor
do I feel the need for another 35. It's a little sweet-
heart of a lens.

Kostas and Frank - you're both wrong. I have K 24/2.8.
What I found out about my very M 35/2.8 is two things:
1. At f/2.8 and f/4 it gives very pleasing results
2. At f/5.6 and on the look of the picture is anything but pleasing. I
cannot really explain what displeases me, but it would seem as if the
result is over-sharpened - if it makes any sense to you.
I've shot 2 films exclusively with that lens on my trip to Norway and
I will have to review these scans very carefully.
Also my ME Super keeps giving me warnings. On one of these two films
two frames just overlapped - no inter-frame distance whatsoever. I am
starting to think that I have to get rid of it :(... And then I will
have to think of AF optics in favor of my older glass...
Frankly :), I am not sure where do I go these days, so for now I am
keeping things as they are...
Lon, who said this list was any good anyway? ;)

you don't already have. Go Wide, young man
Have you got a 24mm lens? Get one of those, they're fun.
Don't worry about autofocus in a 35mm lens, they're wide enough that
at a reasonable aperture you hardly have to focus anyway (well, I
don't, but then maybe there are those on this list who are a tad
pickier about focusing than I am... ).
Get a 24mm - you know you want one...

Guess what gem! ;)

I was actually looking though the classifieds (which I never read) to see
whether it was a viable option to list ist D no.2 in, and my attention was
suddenly grabbed and smacked around by an ad for a supposed 'smc-f pentax 50
1:1.4', for AUD45 (that's about USD32). I figured it was highly likely a
bait and switch, but I gave the number a call, and upon hearing it was
indeed lettered in red, and plasticky, I called a cab and hurtled down to
the seller's location. OMG! SMC-F 50mm f/1.4, practically MINT! Bought it
straight away.

That wasn't the end. An SMC-FA 28 f/2.8 AL as well, excellent condition,
AUD55!

Also spent AUD15 on a CPL, 5 on a skylight, 5 on a hood, 3 on 3 rolls of
Kodak Gold 24 400. Including the AUD30 I spent on a cab, I still did pretty
well I reckon.

He was also selling a Sigma 600 f/8 mirror, and a mint manual focus Sigma
75-200 3.5-4.5, but I wasn't interested. Turns out he used to have an ME
Super and it somehow got fried and he hadn't touched his camera gear in
about a year. He was quite glad to offload it and you -know- how glad I was
to be on the receiving end!

So anyway, spent the rest of the afternoon at John Coyle's who inspected and
helped me shoot this romantic product shot:
http://home.iprimus.com.au/heygoose/imgp0243a.jpg (his body btw- mine's on
holiday..)
and I must say it's almost bizarre how well they go!

Cheers,

Camera Club swap meets in big cities are a great place to buy stuff too

There was a guy selling a Mamiya SB-67 outfit. He had a Polaroid back for

my
Mamiya Universal Press was going for about $250 used back then, and my
friendly

On the other hand, I recall from a couple years back that someone on the

Luck like that I never had.
