For the most part, Egrets are white Herons that have a distinctive mating display plumage. The name comes from the name for the plumage - "aigrette" in French. Yes, that was my fawn. Fawns are easier, since they freeze unless you try to get quite close. Bucks are much more suspicious, and flee whenever they see you. The ones in my neighborhood seem terrified of any camera, and run as soon as I pull one out.
