Ann, Yeah, so I'm six weeks behind in some of my list viewing... This gallery is so good, and so Annsanesque, that I just had to comment. The broken-down bus, Amy's Cafe, and the view from the El are my favorites, but they're all good. Great stuff Ann! I remember having lunch at Fields. Good memories. I also remember Jim's Polish Sausage stand when it was on the corner of Halsted and Maxwell. It was literally just a stand then, rather than a store front. As teenagers we used to take the Halsted bus up north to Maxwell Street after school, and Jim's was always the first stop. I was standing on that corner eating one of his Polish sausages when I heard that Kennedy had been shot in Dallas. Paul On May 18, 2010, at 5:17 PM, Jack Davis wrote: Nice, Ann! Another Maxwell Street story. When I was 15 some friends and I went down there and bought imitation US Navy rings for a buck or two. We used those to prove we were 17 so we could get into the burlesque theater on State Street to see Blaze Starr. Those were the days.
