make for some interesting photos, I'll see if I can't think hard and

Re: Just Bought a KX

2007-08-23 Thread John Francis

I'd agree with those recommendations.

I started out with a Spotmatic II, but would have much preferred
a Spotmatic F; open-aperture metering is a very nice feature.

I never had any of the earlier K mounts; I started with an MX
(which I still have). In the intervening years I've owned an ME
(too automatic), an ME Super, a Super Program, a PZ-1p and an MZ-S.
About the only one of those that I wouldn't recommend for all-around
photography is the ME - the rest are all classics in their own way:

  MXSmall, simple, full manual camera
(capable of 5fps with the optional motor drive!)

ME Super Last of the cameras that work without batteries

Super Program The high point of the manual focus bodies

PZ-1p 4.3fps, 1/8000 shutter speed; excellent for flash.
Introduced the two-wheel hyper program interface
that was also used in the *ist-D and K10D.

MZ-S The last, and best, of the MZ bodies.

Re: Just Bought a KX

2007-08-23 Thread Brian Walters
The Super A is great - definitely my favourite among the MF Pentax, although
I've never handled an LX.

I don't have any experience with the SP 500 or SP1000 but I wouldn't rule out
the Spotmatic F. It was the last of the screw mount series and the most
capable in that it offered open aperture metering with Super Multi Coated
Takumars and SMC Takumars. With other Takumars and other branded screw mount
lenses you get the usual stop down metering.

One thing tricky about the KX is that you have to
pull out the film advance partially to turn on the
meter. Many people mistake the camera has a dead meter
if they dont know that because the batttery check will

Re: Just Bought a KX

2007-08-22 Thread Larry Levy
Glen,

You'll love the KX. It's built like a tank. I always thought it could serve
as a hammer in an emergency ;-)

You can download a free PDF copy of the manual at

http://www.pentaximaging.com/files/manual/KX.pdf

You should also be able to get an actual manual at

http://www.craigcamera.com/default.htm

Welcome and enjoy.

Where I come from 'old fartdom' is reached at age 60. So, yes. Guilty!

However, I may be old but I'm not (often) grouchy.

Re: Just Bought a KX

2007-08-22 Thread Brian Walters
Hi Glen. Welcome.

If the KX is in the condition advertised, you'll enjoy it. I drag mine out
occasionally - it's one of the few film cameras I still use.

Manuals come up from time to time on EBay but you need to keep watching - they
aren't all that common.
