Oh yes I did forget about the inability to see the K2's needle in low

My beef with the LX meter is that it only reads in full-stop
increments. So I like the continuous nature of the K2 needle.

The K2 is my favourite Pentax body. The LX is second because I don't
 like the light meter readout.

I like the MX enough that I bought a second one just to have a spare.
I never had any problems with the magic needles, and with a motor drive
the MX is a really responsive camera, ready to shoot the next frame as
fast as anything except far more expensive cameras. Perhaps that's one
reason why the PZ-1p is my favourite AF body; that, and the two-wheel
interface - I never really liked MZ bodies, even though I have an MZ-S
(although I must admit the AF on the MZ-S is much better than the PZ-1p).

Never held or owned the MX but i did try the 5n. I did not care for it
at all. I bought a used PZ-1 instead. It fit my hand a lot better than
the 5n and the finder was better AFAIC

Thanks for the read, Adam. It's fine if people disagree; we all have
different needs and likes. Personally, I quite liked the MX (I prefer
smaller bodies) but I find it difficult to live without Av. The one MX
I've owned had the smoothest, silkiest film advance lever I have
*ever* used. I should've kept it just so I could play with that lever
while watching TV :-)

I do agree on the LX. I wish they'd make a digital version. I'd be
happy with APS-C and manual focus, even with mechanical shutter
cocking like the Epson R-D1.

I'd like to see them bring back the interchangeable viewfinders. It was
(and still is) a lot easier to see using the sports finder.

The MX's wind lever is pretty nice as Pentax's go. But you haven't
seen smooth until you've tried an F3 or EM (the later is a cheap,
plastic MV/MG equivalent, but has a wonderfully smooth wind-on). The
Leica M3 is also uber-smooth.

As to the Nikon's, I like them for their build, the superb viewfinders
and the combination of a reasonably small body and superb shutter that
is the FM/FE/FA series. I really wish that Pentax had made an
equivalent to the FM2n (Manual, mechanical, 1/4000 shutter, 1/250
sync, viewfinder just slightly smaller than the LX, available 3.5fps
winder)

from the Spotmatic I had before it., though the Spotty was a better fit for
my hands  TO the other hand it was as if the LX was made to my exact
specification, I still have a pair of them too.  Yes, the ZX/MZ-3/5n bodies
were a bit flimsy, but their ergonomics were very good, (and I traided a
ZX-m for a ZX-5n in a three way swap).  I thought the 5n Viewfinder was much
superior to the ZX--m though I have to agree the focusing screen would have
been better if it were split image.  I almost never really used the 5n
autofocus, most of my best glass was and still is M and K.  I really don't
need all those lenses a lot of them never get used on digital.

I suspect I would have liked the MX more if I hadn't had continuous
electrical problems with it (the on/off switch on the shutter lock is
a known weak point of the design and my copy ended up being replaced
over it). If you liked the Spotty better, you'd probably love a KX or
K2, they're a Spotmatic-sized body in K mount, the KX is really just a
bigger MX with a smaller viewfinder.

I do love the LX. It's still my favourite of all the Pentax bodies.

As to the MZ-5n and MZ-M, I do like the ergonomics, but they're quite
flimsy compared to similar bodies. And the 5n's finder is just not
good enough to overcome the advantage of a split screen even with it
being bigger and brighter than the MZ-M.
