Re: MX hot-shoe and X-sync
MX #1's hot shoe has gone cold and the X-synch is decidedly tepid (blows hot & cold). I just put it down to it being dropped on its head as a baby. When I bought MX #2 I made sure I asked the salesman to check that the hotshoe worked Wendy --- Wendy Beard Ottawa, Canada http://www.beard-redfern.com - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: MX hot-shoe and x-sync
Actually, I should have said: using the FP socket causes the shutter opening to delay after triggering the flash, to allow the bulb to reach full brightness. Re: MX hot-shoe and X-sync
I don't believe it will sync with an electronic flash, as the FP socket has a short built-in delay to allow the flashbulb to reach full brightness. But what the heck, try a slow speed and see what happens. Pat White - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. RE: MX hot-shoe and X-sync
I've seen it happen to many a MX. Seems to be (frequently, anyway) a loose wire or cold solder joint. There may be other causes as well. This one is fixable. "Focal Plane" sync is designed optimally for #6 bulbs. There's a minimal, but apparently real, difference between the variant flash bulb syncs and bulb types. Pentax, as far as I can tell, always used "FP" sync. Other cameras, including my son's Rolleiflex 2.8C and my LF shutter, identify the sync as "M", which would be for #5 bulbs. Isn't history fascinating? :) Collin Date: Wed, 2 Jan 2002 12:39:25 -0600 From: "Paris, Leonard" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: MX hot-shoe and X-sync It will sync at all shutter speeds, if you use FP class flash bulbs. I noticed a lot of MX's are advertised on eBay with non-funtioning X-syncs and hot-shoes. My MX suffers the same problem although the FP sync will fire the flash. Is this a common problem for MX's? Is it repairable? what shutter speeds does FP sync at? Thanks as always Christian - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. My guess is that the FP socket is used in combination with flash bulbs. Bulbs need some time to ignite and burn quite long, compared to the duration of an electronic flash. That would mean that you could use any shutter speed with flash (bulbs only). -- http://members.chello.nl/~j.schoone\\|// Registered Linux user #78364 - The Linux Counter - http://counter.li.org Assume nothing, expect anything. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
