Hi Rob, here's another option. Use the mailing list feature of
groups.yahoo.com

It is quite flexible, you can enter all the email addresses to the group,
and you can set it up so that only the group owner or moderator can post
to the group. And this should work well for your friend, and he can post
from anywhere.

Gmail will not work, as it will lock your account if "suspicious" activity
is detected.

My Mac.com account allows me to use a standalone pop3 email app *or* web-
based from anywhere to send/receive email and attachments. I have had no
problems with bulk emails, although nowhere near 450.

Free trial available.

Hi Rob
but would it not be easier then to delegate this mass email sending job to a
friend with a normal pop account and a fixed computer installation?
And I saw lately that there is software to download from web mail via pop, I
think it was even freeware.
greetings
Markus

There's absolutely no need to tie your processing to your access point.

At present I'm connected to the net via my local ISP (Earthlink, in San Jose),
but the machine I'm using to prepare this message is located in New York.

When I'm travelling I can either use a pay-as-you-go internet connection
(such as the one I have in the UK through Virgin.net), or use an internet
cafe (or any other method of getting on to the 'net, such as a friend's
machine). Then I can still connect to my panix account in New York, and
work in a familiar environment no matter wher I may be, physically.

Thanks for the info guys. The problem is that this person doesn't have a fixed
ISP account and they are often travelling so they use a web based email service
from any handy internet cafe. Currently the list contains 450 names and it's
not growing too fast, however Yahoo limits the B'cast to 90 emails per hour,
you can imagine what kind of a pain that would be if you were working through
an Internet-cafe.

Hi Graywolf
yes, and you can do that also with an inexpensive database feeding email
addresses to word or another text processor for a serial letter for example.
Then one mail after the other is sent.

One of the problems nowadays is that many ISP's are filtering anything with
more than 10 recipients as Spam. Serious mailing list software does send an
independent email to each list member however which gets around that.

Hi Rob
the problem I see is that most internet solution provider will not tell you
explicit what their limit is for mass emails.
You should be save if you do not send more than 50 emails at once and not
more than 3 mailings in an hour. This is
a value I have found to work with most ISP here in Switzerland. But again,
you will not see this information anywhere
on their websites or in their contracts and they may change things often too
:-(

Hi Team,

I have a quick question that hopefully someone here will furnish
a solution to.

I have a friend who only has web mail access but needs to
broadcast to around
450 email recipients periodically. Does anyone know which web
base email would
be the best to facilitate the task? Is Gmail up to it? Any help would be
appreciated.
