And this one, of course, came winging back immediately...

I think I'm developing a love/hate relationship.

I assume that the messages go "personal mail server -> listserver -> listees
(including Mail Archive)" so it would appear the either some peoples' mail is
causing the problem or some peoples' ISP is. There is certainly a discrepancy
in the way mails appear from my ntl (ptui!) account depending on whether I am
using an email programme or webmail, so I am thinking it is likely to be the
former in my case. It has been very reluctant this afternoon so, once I get
home, I will try it from there to see if the difference continues.

It might contribute to the problem, but I think the problem goes much
deeper than that, or in a different direction. Messages just disappear for
some people regardless of their choice of mail program, sometimes messages
never appear in the archives while appearing on the list, and some never
appear on the list for anyone, and so on. Frankly, I think it has to do
with the archive system. Messages are not disappearing on other mailing
lists in which I participate.

Indeed. But that was two machines and three versions of browser
software ago. I'm assuming that the present problem, which I've only
just experienced, is due to some filtering of email that might have
something to do with (for example) HTML code getting embedded in webmail.

(Nearly just replied to you with webmail. Sorry about the sig.)

Interesting. I was using webmail to access my ntl (ptui!) account
from work, so as to avoid including the College sig. When I do
that, it takes eons for my post to come back to me. Using a proper
mail programme, it is much quicker.

Could this be a reason for the problem?
Weren't you having problems with the PUG a while back? I recall
someone was having problems getting all the images when I was looking
after things.
