The fencing in this area (near the "Artisans Gate) is so cheap and
flimsy that it resembles chicken wire fencing. I don't it recall it
being that intrusive last fall when I was there, but perhaps that was
because the vegetation was more lush then.

It seems, however, that it may indeed be permanent:

Do you know if that ugly fencing is a permanent feature of the park

Thanks, Don.

Yesx, I suppose eliminating the tree would show the hansom cab off to
better advantage, but I was focusing on the park, rather that the
horse and carriage. I have done those images previously, and a couple
are in my PPG portfolio. Here, I was seeking to combine the carriage
with the trees and grass and the buildings in the background, to try
to recreate the feeling of being in the park on a spring afternoon.

I might, however, crop this image a bit to make another version
showing the hansom cab to better effect.

They are quite ugly, and interfere with any attempt to create a

I chose this image because, despite the fencing, it was overall more

Hi Ann,
If a stock house worries about anything other than what will sell,
they're shooting themselves in the foot. Of course, you don't want to
misrepresent things: buildings in the wrong place, animals of the
wrong color, etc. But fixing something that looks bad can only be
good. Getty is number one in the business, and they don't worry a bit
about retouching for the purposes of enhancement.

Nice one, Ann. I like the starkness and clean, crisp detailing
 of the
 buildings.

A suggestion: some selective rendering on the rock area in the
 middle
background (lighten, stretch the contrast a little, reduce the
 blue)
would enhance the scene nicely. Tonalities and detailing seems a
little bit muddy in that area.

No color filter -- I don't remember if I used my polarizer or not - and
that is one thing the
data on the camera doesn't tell me... I don't think I needed it, though.
 In otherwords,
taht color was what I saw in the sky -- common winter light here at late
afternoon on a

What Godders is suggesting definitely falls within the constraints of "minimal
cleanup." The stock house just doesn't want you to swap the GM building for the
Essex House :-).

nice shot ann. I like your composition. it looks like there is
slight amount of 'converging verticals', which reminds you that you
are in a city (in case you couldn't see the buildings in the
background :) but not so converging as be a distraction. i like the
nice blue sky too, did you use a filter or a computar, or is that just
the way it is?

Nice one, Ann. I like the starkness and clean, crisp detailing of the
buildings.

A suggestion: some selective rendering on the rock area in the middle
background (lighten, stretch the contrast a little, reduce the blue)
would enhance the scene nicely. Tonalities and detailing seems a
little bit muddy in that area.

Thanks, Paul -- I actually just sold a ink jet print of this yesterday ,
kinda by accident.

re location - right - I was strolling across the park from CP West near
the bottom edge of the park - The lens was 18-55 mm
on the darkside digital Rebel and the specs say the shot was taken at
21mm - which is what in 35mm terms?
about 30mm? shot at 1/80th , ISO 100, f5.0

Nice one. A classic Central Park image, with the buildings rising up behind the
trees, and a view that's only possible when the leaves are gone. Are you
looking toward the southeast corner of the park here? You must have been near
