I was under the impression that there was only one, maybe two B-17s  
still flying, and that the last flying B-24 had augured in a couple  
of years back, or vice versa.  But maybe not.



The B-24J was still flying as of late April this year. I expect it is  
still touring the country with the B-17 that flys with it.

I was lucky enough ten or fifteen years ago to be outside our offices 
having a cigarette when a B-17 and a B-24 went over together at maybe 
500 feet (150m).  I didn't have a camera with me. :-(

Actually I looked it up and surprisingly there are about a dozen in 
flying condition and another three or four being currently restored for 
flight.

Not that surprising, B-17's were in active commercial service into the
70's (waterbombing), so there's a lot of parts and airframes still in
existence, unlike Liberators or Lancasters.

the B17 in question is the Liberty Belle.
