Thanks very much, Frank! I think the most valuable thing I've
learned from this image is to follow my gut when it tells me there's
something right about a photo.

Your kind words are much appreciated.

Wow, that's a beautiful rendering. BW really gives it a vintage
look as befits an old structure like that.

Terrific composition. Love old bridges, and you really captured and
presented this one very well.

I tried to think of a gratuitous insult but I'm not at my best this
evening so I'll just have to praise it instead.

That's a fantastic shot and the shadows on the roadway make it for me.
It wouldn't be anywhere near as good without them.

Re: PESO -- That Confounded Bridge

2010-09-06 Thread Walter Gilbert
Thanks, Paul. I really do need to work on my B/W eye. I've mostly
used it as a fallback position when a color shot just refuses to turn
out like like I want it. Which is strange, considering I've always felt
more drawn to B/W images when they're well done. I guess it just takes
a more discerning eye to spot a potential B/W shot, whereas potential
color shots are often self-evident to the point of smacking me in the face.

Thanks again.

  Thanks, Christine. Much appreciated.

I had to tinker with it quite a bit to make it OK to my eye. The sky
was extremely clear that day, and as you can see from the direction of
the shadows, the sun was pretty high in the sky. I had to really tone
down the highlight to give it any kind of mood at all.
