The main reason I continue to use workshops/tours is to get the most out of a specific area. There is no way I could scout an area to obtain the maximum utilization of my field time with out them. That plus the enforced discipline of getting up at oh dark thirty to get the best light. Oh I don't mind encountering other shooters, swapping stories, etc. - it is the organized stuff I'm not intersted in .. no workshops, no classes, no group tours - but if I see more than a couple I split.. I've had a number of impromptu unguided shooting experiences wherein shooters would concentrate at the site's prime locations. Partially Ansel's fault. Yosemite and Grand Teton Ntl Pk, for example.
