Very nice mood and feel to this. The HDR lighting gives it a nice feel.

There are a number of churches in the area that are expected to be

I suspected that it was HDR done well. Congratulations, it looks excellent.

I'm not sure how HDR work down in the nuts and bolts, but it would be
interesting to see if the individual frames are sharp, and it's the combination
that is a little bit soft.

I was also wondering about lightroom lens correction doing something with the
perspective. I've noticed that it sometimes seems to soften the image a bit as
well.

You'll end up doing HDR panoramics with focus stacking. By the time you're
done, the end result will be the combination of 105 separate exposures. That
way leads madness.

Did I mention that it is a lovely image?

Hi Jack -

I saw that too.  The camera was centered in the aisle, but may have
been pointing slightly to one side.  When you really look close,
everything is just slightly soft. This is a 5-shot HDR.  I'm not sure
of the side effects from trying to fix the slight perspective problem
in Lightroom.

I took several test shots at different focal lengths, focusing in
different places.  I'm going back to re-shoot armed with notes from

Sadly, most of the churches are locked when not having services.

Re: PESO - PAD - St. Bridget's Church

2012-05-24 Thread George Sinos
Hi Christine -

I'm not focusing on anything in particular. I'm taking Johnston's
advice and following along where the results of the printing lead me.
The first couple of days it was all about figuring out Lightroom's
soft proofing and printing functions.

The last few days have been more about getting better at predicting
the differences between the screen and the paper.

Here's the original article from TOP.

Re: PESO - PAD - St. Bridget's Church

2012-05-24 Thread Jack Davis
I'd say you have accomplished 30 day printing results in a week. Very nice
print!

I've been looking at the symmetry of the image and find it flawless...almost.
Am wondering about the two (left and right) nearest pews and trying to
understand why the vertical frame edges appear to pass exactly through all
elements except for the two closest armrests. If I haven't fumbled the question
to badly. Last two pews are off center? ;-)
Also, the face of the left pew appears less sharp than the one on the right.(?)

I may need more to do.

Jack

Subject: PESO - PAD - St. Bridget's Church

A few days ago, Mike Johnston of The Online Photographer suggested
that you may improve your printing skills by printing a different
photo every day, for 30days.

Today is my seventh day into the project and I must admit that I'm
getting more comfortable with printing. My skills may or may not be
improving but I've learned a lot about printing through Lightroom 4.
Previously I did the majority of printing through Photoshop.

Now that I have a 7 day cushion I decided to post screen versions of
the photos I've selected for prints.

St. Bridget's is the beautiful old church I attended during my grade
school and high school years. I'll be returning over the next few
weeks to get additional photos. This is one of the initial test shots.

There are a number of churches in the area that are expected to be
closed over the next year.  Population shift and finances are the
primary reasons.  Luckily, this beautiful old church isn't one of
them.  My intention is to get all of them photographed before it's too
late.

I begin to suspect that Mike Johnston has some kind of deal with ink
manufactures. That is a beautiful image and I suspect it will make a
lovely print.
