Who knows (Paul probably does) may be he saw a nice slow swirling circle 
that grabbed his attention. Or perhaps his mind wondered across a 
thought that required certain meditation ;-).

By the way - what would be the name of the kind of that dog? Basset Hound?

I like the coffee drinkers through the window, especially the fact
that one can't see their faces.  Great emotion shown on the pooch's
face.

Bill's very right about the nose thing, an interesting
smell almost puts a Basset in a "trance".
I've had to pop Beau on the butt to snap him out of it
a couple of times.
Pauls dog in the pic is a remarkable animal, beautiful

My experience with scent hounds is that an interesting smell can be from out 
of state, and the dog will try to track it.

The colors work well here, too, -  yet I'd kind of like to
see this in black and white...
to make the subject and the story more important 
and the blue area just beyond the dog's nose is a bit
distracting.  
that being said, I certainly like it as is.  But I think it
would work better as BW

A well told sweet daily life story. 
To state the obvious: There is a strong line between the dog and the door.
This makes it obvious for us that the dog's attention is at the door. That's
what tells the story.

I love how these serious nature shooters disguise themselves as a couple 
of ordinary park-goers to put the creatures at ease. None of the animals 
likes to be stalked by the parkarazzi.
