Re: PESO - Poplars
Hi all Thanks for the comments on these: Colour: http://www.blognow.com.au/PESO/114205/Poplars.html B&W: http://www.blognow.com.au/PESO/114207/Poplars_in_Black_and_White.html It seems that the colour version is the go. Some specific responses. Rick thought that the B&W version looked "cold and wintery". It does look a bit like that, although I wasn't consciously trying to achieve that effect. Bob W commented that "it feels to me as if the poplars are hiding a much nicer landscape. Looks almost English, in fact." Yes - the reason that the poplars are here is that the early settlers missed the landscapes old 'olde England' and imported lots of the plants they were familiar with. These poplars are feral - not as bad as some other garden escapees (at least they help stabilise the creek banks against erosion) - but they are weeds none the less. They do look attractive in the right light, however. :-)> Luiz thought "the BW version would require a darker sky, for my taste". I did darken the sky a tad but I'll keep that suggestion in mind. I'm going to do a little more work on the B&W version. I still think there's a photo trying to get out here. Jack & Christine thought the poplars lacked a bit of detail. I think that's an effect of the jpg compression (it needed quite a lot to get it down to a reasonable size). The full sized image seems to have plenty of detail. I'll be interested to see how the print turns out. Jack also noted - "I'd get rid of the small white stuff (probably structures) at the bottom of the left edge of the tree line". Yeah, they're farm buildings - now, if I'd moved a bit more to the right before pressing the shutter button. Christian noted: "What I find humorous is how out of place the trees look in the Australian countryside with all those evergreen gum trees". See my comment to Bob W. Don't get me started on environmental weeds! Cheers Brian ++ Brian Walters Western Sydney Australia http://members.westnet.com.au/brianwal/SL/ -- -- http://www.fastmail.fm - mmm... The color version has a warm richness that is lost in the monochrome version--the latter looks cold and wintry. Very nice photo. Re: PESO - Poplars
Very well seen, Brian! The "Poplars" appear to be leaning to the right just a bit, but the trees on the far right hillside seem to belie that impression. May be the result of a predominant wind direction.(?) Although you set a very good DoF, the poplars appear the slightest bit lacking in detail. Especially true in the B&W version. Another tiny nit, I'd get rid of the small white stuff (probably structures) at the bottom of the left edge of the tree line. To be clear, I like it very much!
