RE: PUG deadline today!
I tried to submit a picture, in vain :-( For some reason I was told that I could not submit a file smaller than 1k. It sounds like a very good idea to test the actual file size, but the size was 74k. So, I think something is wrong in the submission procedure. But don't worry, it was just a crappy image. Re: PUG deadline - when?
- Original Message - From: William Robb [EMAIL PROTECTED] I put that in when I was doing the gallery. I found I really needed 10 days to get the thing set up. I know. I was just having a bit of tongue in my cheek. *ouch* The AutoPug is set up to accept entries until the 20th in all months. Adelheid has made the preparation procedure a lot more automated now. Cheers, Jostein

Maybe an *ist-D with a slide duplicator would do the trick. I have been doing a lot of slide duping with the istD of late. Interstingly, with all the lenses I have, the only combination I can make work is the 77mm with a #1 close up filter on the front of it, and I hade to make a front bellows out of paper to sheild the light path, as the slide duplicator bellows isn't long enough. At some point, I will probably make something that I can put on the front of my 6x7 bellows, as that should give enough draw to allow for duping without the close up filter. William Robb

- Original Message - From: Jens Bladt Subject: RE: PUG Deadline Approaching Hi Are you guys saying, that Pentax Bellows adn slide copier A will not work with *ist D No, I don't know where you read that. However Because of the prism overhang, you want to put a short extension tube onto the camera before mounting the bellows. Alternately, you can remove the mount from the bellows, put it onto the camera, and then put the bellows onto the mount. After that, it is just a matter of finding a lens/lens to focal plane/slide to lens length combination that will allow for full frame viewing. The slide duplicator attachment rod is somewhat too short to allow the slide to be far enough away from the lens to allow this with the equipment I have, so I tossed a close up lens on to make up the difference. Not at all. A photo is not a cliché because it is of a flower of of a cat. If we could speak about dog photos, I'd say open Elliot Erwitt's book on dogs to see what I mean. Re: PUG deadline
Then they might be cliché. My point is that a photo is not a cliché BECAUSE it is a photo of a flower or a cat. To be a cliché, a photo of a flower or a cat has to be conventional or, if you want, the repetition of what is already seen all around. If your photo of a flower is perceived as original, as unconventional, then it probably escapes the definition of cliché. I don't know who is Anne Geddes... She makes cat calendars? Aren't all flower pictures Cliché? Cats too! Just take a look on photo.net at the number of new posted images that are either flowers or cats! We did a 35mm Color contest at the magazine and had to open some 800 entries sent in from all over the world. Admittedly I got a little punchy before it was all over, but at some point I started holding the unopened envelopes to my forehead, Carnac-like, and saying, Contained herein are three pictures, two of which are either a sunset picture, a picture of some rocks, or flowers, and I was almost always right. Frightening, --Mike

Nice suggestion. got my FIRST submission in and looking forward to it :D Darn! Missed the flamin submission for the PUG date again! Didn't even get as far as shooting anything, why do I forget every month? Can we have an auto-reminder posted to the list like 3 or 4 days in advance of the cut-off?

Hey Bill, Great, I`m glad you got the warmed up! I just kind of miss Wheatfields promotion of PUG, telling us when the deadline approaches, so I`ll do it (if I remember every month ;) ) Love those Grandfather Mountain pics, and the group shots, make sure you get some group shots for us to see.
