Re: Peso: Boston
I always heard "plywood palace", but as mentioned I lived 50 miles away. I suppose we in Fall River were still impressed with its grandeur, plywood and all. We used to make yearly trips for either the Freedom trail or the Science Museum and I always liked looking at the tower with all the plywood. The funny part is that this debacle is a rather positive memory for me. BTW, I had a friend who became a corporate lawyer and got involved with the law suits associated with the Hancock tower. This case essentially consumed his entire career. On Fri, Sep 3, 2010 at 8:25 AM, John Mullan wrote: > Not quite so dramatic. Not quite so dramatic. Or maybe more so if you were walking beneath. Hancock II was designed with a glass façade. While under construction in the early 70's they discovered that the glass used at the higher levels of the building was not up to the wind load and was falling from the building. It was all removed, replaced temporarily with plywood and new glass specified and put in place. Building 19, a distressed merchandise vendor had a lot of fun selling the removed glass through their outlets. They weren't allowed to say where the glass was from, but alluded to it in so many varied and humorous ways. Because of the temporary plywood it got nicknamed "Plywood Ranch" which was a lumber vendor at the time. jm -- From: "David J Brooks" Sent: Friday, September 03, 2010 3:45 AM To: "Pentax-Discuss Mail List" Subject: Re: Peso: Boston On Thu, Sep 2, 2010 at 10:05 PM, John Mullan wrote: Then again, the newer Hancock was known as the Plywood Ranch when its windows were falling out. jm Like the Crimson Permanent Assurance.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX61PUZ3xkI Dave -- From: "Miserere" Sent: Thursday, September 02, 2010 8:43 PM To: "Pentax-Discuss Mail List" Subject: Re: Peso: Boston On 2 September 2010 18:36, Steven Desjardins wrote: I went to meeting in Boston last week. Nice scene there. The exposure looks quite good. The sky seems just a little to dominant. I would crop a little off the top. -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail. Hi! I was intending to post another shot until next week but here are two shots I took in Boston: http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-10/1098407/harbor.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-10/1098407/bostoncommons.jpg Gaurav, there is definitely a common motif in both shots... At least to my perception. However the first one is much stronger... I think it could use a bit more sharpness. Probably whatever lab was doing the scan made it a bit soft. The second one is not bad at all, but it is just, well, common. Boris

Re: PESO: Boston Harbor
Gaurav, My slightly-belated welcome! I like your pix. I think the harbor pic could do with some cropping--it seems bottom-heavy and left-heavy to me. I would crop about 1/4 of the way in from the right, and just above the top of the sailboat's mast. Similarly, I would crop the park pic down through the tree trunk (which would eliminate that body emerging on the right), and just below that horizontal branch. Looks as though you have some camera motion blur on this one, too. Keep them coming! Rick --- Gaurav Aggarwal <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Wow! I feel so much more comfortable.
