It's fun, but maybe 2 exposures too many for me -- it's the blur factor
- I used to have nightmares as a kid of things all mushed up so hard for
me to look at thisobjectively.  LIke the idea, though

Re: PESO: Boston Marathon

I was in Durham 4 times at the time of the Great North Run (91, 93, 97 &
99) but they wouldn't give hoi polloi late entries although they did
make allowances for elite runners. It was a pity because I was running
well in those years - had to be content with the TV transmission. (We
were there for Phillips Analytical Conferences & stayed in the Castle).

Well, that was just my thinking at first. I struggled with it for a

Re: Peso: Boston

2010-09-03 Thread Steven Desjardins
I always heard "plywood palace", but as mentioned I lived 50 miles
away. I suppose we in Fall River were still impressed with its
grandeur, plywood and all. We used to make yearly trips for either
the Freedom trail or the Science Museum and I always liked looking at
the tower with all the plywood. The funny part is that this debacle
is a rather positive memory for me. BTW, I had a friend who became a
corporate lawyer and got involved with the law suits associated with
the Hancock tower. This case essentially consumed his entire career.

I was just a wee lad during this time; knee high to a grasshopper.
But I have strong memories of the glass falling because my dad worked
at the Boston Public Library, which is just steps away, and it was a

Not quite so dramatic. Or maybe more so if you were walking beneath.
Hancock II was designed with a glass façade. While under construction in the
early 70's they discovered that the glass used at the higher levels of the
building was not up to the wind load and was falling from the building. It
was all removed, replaced temporarily with plywood and new glass specified
and put in place. Building 19, a distressed merchandise vendor had a lot of
fun selling the removed glass through their outlets. They weren't allowed
to say where the glass was from, but alluded to it in so many varied and
humorous ways. Because of the temporary plywood it got nicknamed "Plywood
Ranch" which was a lumber vendor at the time.

Hi!

I was intending to post another shot until next week but here are two
shots I took in Boston:

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-10/1098407/harbor.jpg
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-10/1098407/bostoncommons.jpg

Gaurav, there is definitely a common motif in both shots... At least to
my perception. However the first one is much stronger... I think it
could use a bit more sharpness. Probably whatever lab was doing the scan
made it a bit soft.

The second one is not bad at all, but it is just, well, common.

Re: PESO: Boston Harbor

2005-10-27 Thread Rick Womer
Gaurav,

My slightly-belated welcome! I like your pix.

I think the harbor pic could do with some cropping--it
seems bottom-heavy and left-heavy to me. I would crop
about 1/4 of the way in from the right, and just above
the top of the sailboat's mast.

Similarly, I would crop the park pic down through the
tree trunk (which would eliminate that body emerging
on the right), and just below that horizontal branch.
Looks as though you have some camera motion blur on
this one, too.

Keep them coming!

Rick

ago. I am amazed. Thanks for your welcome. I really appreciate it.

I was intending to post another shot until next week but here are two
shots I took in Boston:

The way the girl and the sale boat both line up is a bit too linear for
my tastes. It would be a better composition if the boat were on right
side of the frame.

Nice composition, but it could be a bit sharper.
