Sounds like a pretty kinky combination to me!

people have listed used F & FA version of 100/2.8 Macro on thier

claim that they have many pentax lenses which are not listed on the

Re: Portrait lens wanted

2001-05-30 Thread Rfsindg

Brent,

I'd guess at prices something like this...

M100/2.8 - $165 (not rare, but not a common focal length)
A100/2.8 - $185 (more for the same lens in A mount)
K105/2.8 - $230+? (this I would call semi-rare, it's old and some folks love
it)

Perhaps somebody else is keeping closer track???

I think the problem for the M and A series lenses is that there are so many
135's and 28's. Nobody bought a 100mm. This is a nice focal length for
portrait work and inside shots where the 135mm always seems too long. I also
like the 85mm for the same reason, but those are more expensive and faster
lenses.

There is a 100mm f/2.8 , M I believe, currently on eBay. Haven't been paying
that close attention, would guess it has a day or two to go. Was at about
$125 last time I looked.

For Pete's sake, what do they do up there, manufacture those lenses?
The next time you find a deal on a K105/2.8 or K85/1.8 buy it for me and I'll
pay you in real Yankee dollars!

Does this mean I got a deal? I paid $110.00 Canadian for mine,
 in EX+ condition.
It really is a nice lens.

Oh no, not at all. In Canada you have to multiply the focal length and optical
qualities of every lens by a correction factor of 0.65. Sadly, the aperture
must be *divided* by the same factor, so you have a 68mm f4.3 that's 35%
less sharp than the 105/2.8 the rest of us enjoy.

Thanks. This was the kind of information i was looking for. Several have
pointed me towards an M100/2.8 on ebay, but if the K105 is only on the
200-300 range, i might just try and be patient until one comes up. Patience
is a hard thing to have around camera equipment and ebay...

I've come to the conclusion that Canadian lens ratings, like
Canadian $$, are worth less when converted to U.S. values mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Portrait lens wanted

2001-05-31 Thread Jose Rodriguez

Hi Brent,

As Bob S. mentioned, the SMC-K Pentax 105mm f/2.8 is somewhat rare; it
took about three months of searching Camera Stores Web Sites (Adorama,
B&H, KEH, etc...) and eBay before I found one at Adorama in EXC+ Condition
for $200. I use to own the SMC-M Pentax 100mm f/2.8 and I believe the
K105/2.8 is better performer.

However, if you want a M100/2.8, Camera Co-Op of Austin (512) 804-2667,
currently has one in at least EXC Condition for $125.

I think I can go along with that. I'll tell you Bob, I think the
USA market for Pentax stuff is totally out to lunch. Used gear
in Canada is now getting pretty rare, it seems all the good
stuff has changed hands, but there are still deals to be found.
Even if it isn't a deal by Canadian standards, it is still more
realistic than what the American market values stuff at.
Last year, I facilitated the purchase of an A100mm f2.8 macro
for an American friend. He ended up paying about half of what it
would have cost him in the US, if he could have found it in the
first place. This was a primo condition lens. I thought it
looked unused, and it still was in its hard case, which was also
cherry.
If I find a K85mm 1.8, I will be keeping it for myself. You can
have the second one.

I picked up a great glass, well used body, M 100/2.8 in a local shop for $60
last year. I got lucky and found it and the 200/4 and got both (without any
front caps) for $120
