He is an over achiever. I am still learning to use the computer mouse with
my left hand, but I will try to put up a page of kid pics soon. Will let
you know.

What a clever little man!! Only my first was anywhere near sitting/standing
before seven
months, the other two have been lazy! lol. My daughter is 14 mths old and
only just walking
now, mind you she doesn't NEED to walk cause the boys carry (or DRAG!) her
everywhere!

Can't wait to see some shots of him when your hand is better!

Hello Tanya,

Lookin' good! I, too, just started shooting an FA 50/1.4. But on an
*istD - I do like the focal length and the lens is very nice to work
with. I like your style.

Thanks for sharing,

Bruce

I can tell you from experience Sylwek, having your own bundle of joy to
photograph whenever you want is MUCH MUCH more expensive than any of the
current digital SLRs. You could certainly get a Medium Format rig for less
as well.

has two kids and LOTS of photographs of each.

Thanks heaps for your comments guys!

Cory, it is funny you should say that actually! I was going to post
yesterday, when Herb etc were debating about PDML'ers who don't shoot enough
etc. Currently,I shoot about 20-30 rolls per week. Of this, 1-2 is just
for fun, 15-20 are for work,
and on average, I would shoot at least 2-3 rolls per week of my kids!! VERY
expensive indeed. The girls at the local lab (where I send my personal
stuff, not work) just roll their eyes in exasperation when i arrive there a
couple of times a week and dump
a handful of film on their counter! Mind you, the kids are obviously very
used to it. My 5yo was making a sandwich today and came in holding up a
piece of cheese. He said mummy, i don't think you've taken a photo of me
with a piece of cheese ever. H, I was like, ummm, you don't need to
have a photo of EVERYTHING that you do matey. To which he answered well,
you take a photo of me doing everything else, and i eat cheese EVERY day on
my sandwich so i thought you'd like a photo of it too...

Plus, he told his teacher the other day, when asked about what mummies do
in the home (they were learning about gender roles etc, and of course his
answer was mummies give cuddles, and they read stories, and they cook yummy
jam drops (a cookie that i bake him)... oh, and they take photos of
EVERYTHING i do (apparently, he rolled his eyes whilst making the
comment!).

So, yep, having kids sure does keep the photography bank in the red, BUT it
makes for lots of practice, and many GREAT memories to show them when they
grow up.

Sylwek, not sure if the small gizmos you were referring to were my kids or
the little 50mm lens that I used, but either way, they are both great to
play with! lol.

David, i'd love to see some pics of your little miracle! congratulations on
his arrival! he is getting to a lovely age, plenty of cute smiles to
photograph, and once he is sitting on his own, it makes life alot easier
too!

Bruce, it is a nice light lens, and great focal length. Probably wouldn't
be able to use it for shooting kids other than my own though as it distracts
them too much when you get that close to them, and can be difficult to get
natural expressions. Will keep using my 135mm I think, but for my kids they
beg me to take their photos and the closer the better!

tan.x.

the just for fun are the most important. they are the ones where you can
experiment and try things just to see what happens. with large format, just
about every shot is a money shot. that and the limited range of focal
lengths available forces a lot of conservative shooting techniques.

i said once that if you had film with 10 stops dynamic range, you could
shoot a lot of great landscape and nature shots at high noon on a sunny day
and was thoroughly ridiculed for it. now that i have a set of Photoshop
filters for automatically layering exposures, i have been shooting 6 stop
scales for a total range of 10-11 stops on my digital cameras and taking
pictures of deep shadow to full sunlight. it opens a lot of possibilities of
getting good landscape and nature shots in the middle of the day. the
limitations of slide film have forced landscape and photographers into early
morning/evening, and overcast day photographers. there are a whole lot of
other days in the year too. gotta think out of the box.

I have tried this technique also with great success.
I have found that sometimes the best light is straight overhead, and a
longer range film would be nice. There isn't a film made that won't have
problems securing a 10 stop range with printable results.

Sitting on his own? He is already standing on his own! And my hand is in
a
cast so my wife has to do all the picture taking right now. I guess I
could
hold the camera upside down in my left hand and press the shutter release
with my pinky. But them all the pictures would be upside down, LOL.
