RE: The warm precincts of the cheerful day
From: pdml-boun...@pdml.net [mailto:pdml-boun...@pdml.net] On Behalf Of Chris Mitchell http://www.web-options.com/Tidza/ Our journey was very well waymarked (although we missed a couple and did a few extra miles as a result) so we were by no means as intrepid as Bob. We did have 1:25,000 maps though so were able to identify places off the path. Thanks. I wasn't all that intrepid - we were being taught by a man with over 25 years experience as a mountain leader, so we were probably in less danger than you and Karin... I really like this one which is nicely composed: http://www.web-options.com/Tidza/content/L129_large.html and the shapes here are very interesting: http://www.web-options.com/Tidza/content/L169_large.html Also the choir stall ends are lovely. RE: The warm precincts of the cheerful day
http://www.web-options.com/Tidza/ Enjoyed the whole set, Bob. Few points, at random. 1. It seems (at least on my screen) that some of the pictures in the series could use a bit more yellow. Though may be it is just an aberration of my eyesight. 2. The wooden figurines are really fascinating. 3. But the final image of that bookshelf is a gem. Again, may be it is my warped mind talking here, but I really liked the light and the sense of shelves straining under the weight of the books and knowledge therein. Boris thanks, Boris, and every else who looked at them. I don't know about the yellow. I'm colourblind so I don't try to judge colour by eye, I just go with whatever comes out of the camera and adjust in LR for contrast and tone. And I'm not using a calibrated monitor in controlled conditions, so you could well be right. Yes, I like the figures too. Next time I go there I might take a tripod and a light meter. It's a fascinating church and reminds me of the one I used to go to when I was at school, but on a smaller scale. This is a full view of the church in Tideswell: http://alpinelodgebuxton.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/tideswell-church. jpg This is the one I used to go to: http://www.yourlocalweb.co.uk/images/pictures/05/14/st-oswalds-church-ashbo urne-50250.jpg Even a grumpy old atheist like me can appreciate these places. So I may be wrong too here. The only defense that I have is that my monitor is profiled with Spyder. RE: The warm precincts of the cheerful day
From: pdml-boun...@pdml.net [mailto:pdml-boun...@pdml.net] On Behalf Of Brian Walters [...] http://www.web-options.com/Tidza/ A very enjoyable gallery - certainly not the sort of landscape and village life that I'm likely to see here. I hope our ABC picks up the BBC's Village SOS programme - should be interesting. How extensive is that flat landscape of Kinder Scout? - not sure I'd want to get lost there. Definitely not a place to get lost. I was at school not so far from there and we regularly heard reports of people being found dead on the top. Some people go up there completely unprepared and get lost and caught in the changeable weather and that's the end of them. It's 700 hectares (whatever they are - I think that's about 1700 acres) of blanket bog and upland heath rising to 636m, which is approximately where we sat for our brew up. A very wild and interesting place to walk, but you have to know what you're doing. I particularly enjoyed 4, 6, 9, 13 and 15 - and those wood carvings on the church pews. Thanks. In fact, they are the choir stalls rather than the pews. Not that it makes much difference.
