Yeah, John (and Joe Tainter, too) I'm kind of stuck here since Earthlink
can't seem to get themselves out of the spam business. I can't request a
whitelist because of their ongoing inability to police their servers.
Our host won't go for it, for obvious reasons.

While I understand all the problems and sympathize to the people
experiencing it, the recurrence of them gives me an impression that people
have some sort of masochistic pleasure from experiencing these problems.

There is no reason to get stuck with Earthlink, Yahoo, or any others.
Even if you are receiving all your e-mail to that address,
One can have a separate account for PDML that would work well with PDML.

And it is easy to setup multiple accounts in Thunderbird.

I'd say Gmail would be a good candidate (even for the people who otherwise
wouldn't be using it). But for those who refuse anything G on principle,

gmx.com is a good option.

Another option that I would suggest considering is zoho.com .
They have their own free mail.
Additionally, you can even host your own domain at no cost for hosting
(you can register a domain, say, on name.com for some $10-15 a year), -
so that you can use an address like j...@yourownlovelynameddomain.com .

HTH,

Igor

Well, you _are_ addressing a group of long-time Pentax users.

Am I missing something? I can never understand the reluctance to use
Microsoft's mail systems: I've
been using Outlook for more years than I care to remember, and seldom have any
problems. When away,
I have used Live Mail, and while not as good as Outlook, it works!
On Outlook, I have set up rules to move emails from the PDML to their own
folder, and have other
rules for client emails - all of which have worked for years without issue.
My wife, however, uses an iPad, and the mail system on those is primitive by
comparison, and last
month reloaded emails from 3 years ago!

Yeah, I know it's not your fault. It's the Earthlink customer who keeps sending
out the SPAM that's getting them blacklisted.

Can't speak for anyone else, but AFAIK Outlook is only available as part of
Micro$oft Office; the latest version of which doesn't work with Windoze7.
Down-level versions that do work with Windoze7 are not available and are not
supported.

After the hell I went through with Windoze10, I'm not inclined to pay Micro$oft
for software that I have to learn all over again, especially when experience
tells me that even if I could get it to work, it won't let me do things the way
I want to do them.

I've been using the mail client from Netscape and its descendants (aka
Thunderbird) since 1994. Thunderbird works just fine.

The problems are all with the email providers, not with the software I use to
send & receive email.

Right now, Yahoo is the least problematic email provider I can use with PDML. I
would use it exclusively if I could figure how out to get it to echo my own
submissions to the list back to my Yahoo inbox so messages would thread properly.

And *NOT* Gmail either.

Google is already far too intrusive. I'd ditch Google and Google+ in a heartbeat
if could find a way to do it without losing YouTube. I might as well sell my
soul to fakebook and be done with it.

You can use any client you like on any OS with Outlook or Hotmail, and continue
to use your existing email addresses. Mine are all Outlook / Hotmail. I've been
with Hotmail since it started, long before MS bought it.

I have no idea why you have had problems with Outlook under W7 (and later
versions). I've used it
with every version of Windows except 8.x: I suspect you may not have allowed
upgrades to happen when
required, as I know many people do not.
