Thanks Fred!

You know, I originally put up that page strictly as something
temporary for a few PDML members to see. But it kept growing and
getting hits. It's now linked from all over the place and I get a
couple of emails a month asking about these lenses.

It sold me on getting the rev3 version. Found a good one on
eekbay about a year ago. Having the 'A' was worth it even for the 1/3
stop slower at the long range over the rev1, rev2.

Only trouble is it seems to be pretty flare-prone and loses a lot
of contrast in that case. If you keep it under control, it's really nice.

I think only version 1 has a switch for macro mode. I know the third
version doesn't and it doesn't look as if there's one on version 2.

	I think I'd believe that. Also, after playing with a buddy's I
convinced to get for his RebelXT, I can say it's pretty goofy to operate.
It's in M42 with a sorta "double-helix" for the macro mode. Strage until
you figure it out.

Mark, your page certainly sold me. 554 hits are probably mine, during
the period while obsesive-compulsive-buyer Fernando was struggling
with relationship Fernando. You know now who won...

The one I am waiting for focus closer. But according to the data at Marks
page the contrast is poor at the long end. I'm hoping it shows better
contrast when stepped down a step or two.

Only the Version 1 lens has a separate macro switch.

By the way, Mark, I've come up with a copy of the gold "50th Anniversary"
version of the VS1 70-210 lens (it's just a gold version of the Version 4
lens), so I'll have to get you a new "family portrait" (with six lenses
this time) for the VS1 70-210 page on your web site - .

I have the version 2. It does not have a macro switch, it simply focusses
close enough to have a 1:4 magnification ratio. Which yields 1:1 when
printed at 4x6", so you _could_ call it macro...

I have v3 of the same lens. There is no macro switch. You simply focus
closer.
My copy of the lens is in need of a CLA (I believe the problem is sticky
aperture). I have just bought another one. Think it will arrive tomorrow.
