Re[3]: zx-m focussing screen in zx5n
Hi John, The other two FA lenses I have appear to focus more precisely. However, the error may be covered by the larger DOF, as both are slow zooms (f/4 - f/5.6). The 80-320/4-5.6 in particular appears to focus consistently on the same point, regardless of the initial focus position. The problem I experience with FA 50/1.4 is focusing closer than infinity on far-away objects. The error varies with initial focus point, ambient light, spot or wide area sensors, but is always visible both in viewfinder and on slides. To make it even stranger, if I manually set focus at infinity, then switch to AF, the camera will still force a closer focus point. With closer subjects (under 5 meters), the camera-lens combo always focus precisely and consistently. This and the fact that I shoot landscapes on manual focus make me consider the above just a minor annoyance. BTW, the MZ-5N is indeed a great manual focus camera! Spot meter, TTL flash and even [shields on!] the great viewfinder concur to this. Servus, Alin John wrote: JAH I noticed you observed the same with the same lense. Have you any other JAH AF lenses to test with for focus error? Unfortunately the AF50 is the JAH only one I have. All my other lenses are MF. In fact even the 2 news JAH ones I just bought are MF! (yes... I know... Why buy the 5n if I have JAH not AF lenses? Answer... The M is like my K-1000.. And I wanted some JAH newer features like bracketing and what not... Plus the ability to use JAH AF if/when I buy such lenses. Plus, that pop-up flash comes in handy JAH sometimes!) - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Yes, this is EXACTLY the problem mine has, only with certain lenses. It's had it since new, it's consistent, and I've posted about it here numerous times. Many people told me I was seeing things, or that it was designed to be that way, or I had bad eyes, so I'm glad to see a couple others now mentioning it.
