RE: Testing SD cards

2010-06-19 Thread Bruce Dayton
Larry, I have a 16gb Transcend and 2 - 8gb Patriot cards that I swap back and
forth all the time between the K20D and th K-x. I format them in camera and
normally use the built in card reader on my HP laptop or a Gateway desktop. I
have been doing this at a high frequency without nary a hiccup. One wonders
about your card reader.

No I haven't. This is not the same card that I lost data from the other day,
but it's the same type, bought at the same time.

Unfortunately I don't have the money to go upgrading to sandisk SD cards right
now.

Has anyone had problems formatting an SD card in one camera (K20D) and using it
in another (Kx)?

It sounds kind of odd that both cards would go sour at the same time -
how old are they?
I format my cards in-camera before use every time after moving images
to my computer.
Do you have the K20D and the K-x set to the same file/folder naming converntion?
Have you tried connecting a USB cable directly to the camera to get the images?

Testing SD cards

2010-06-19 Thread Larry Colen
Last week, I lost some files due to what I thought was user error. They still
seem to be on the SD card, but when I try to recover them, they are corrupted.

Today, I was using another SD card, and when I went to read the files off it, a
lot of them seem to be corrupted or damaged.

Is there good (mac or linux) software for testing SD cards?

These are transcend 8GB class 6.
