That wasn't a factor for me - we've still got the Mini
(which we refer to as the high-capacity load-hauler).

If my wife ever manages to find gainful employment
again we're planning on upgrading to a Countryman.

A Stig Vidar? I've seen one of those. It takes really good pictures =)

The phrase "cold, dead hands" comes to mind with the MZ-S! I've gone back to
shooting
family stuff with it, as my wife likes to get prints rather than look at photos
on screen
- and I tend to be slack at printing digital off, never mind the inevitable
post-processing.
It is one of the best cameras Pentax produced, in my admittedly limited
experience of
handling those from the 80's. Mine's had a CLA here in Oz, and is as good as
new, and I
have no idea how many frames I've shot with it.
I also take an SV for a walk now and then, just for old time's sake - and it
still works
perfectly too...

I can't bring myself to part with mine, even though I consider it extremely
unlikely I'll
ever put another roll of film through it.
I've still got a PZ-1p (and a couple of MXs) if I feel the urge to shoot film
(and some
Royal Gold 25 in a box in the freezer).

it was a close decision between a fully-tricked-out JCW Mini and the Z4.

I faced the same dilemma (Z3/4 versus Mini). For me, the decider was
that the Mini has a back seat, which means I can put taller cargo in it,
which I occasionally have to do. What I really wanted was a G35 Sport
Coupe or a 325/328/330, but the used car market is definitely moving
north in this area. I could get them for my price six weeks ago, but
not today.

Those are fun little machines. My mother's next door neighbour had one.

The price would have ended up about the same. The (used) Z4 won out,
in the end, because the SMG meant that my wife could drive it without
putting too much strain on her knee - she has severe arthritis.

In some ways, I'd like to keep mine just as a testament to mechanical
art (the same reason I own some obsolete firearms ... they're just
simply beautiful in their workmanship). The MZ-S were truly beautiful
machines. On the other hand, they fetch very attractive prices on the
open market, I'm told. If I could trade it for a grand or so, I might
find I could get over the loss. With the battery grip attached, and the
FA* 200/2.8 or F* 300/4.5 in position, it's like an extension of both my
arm and my vision. It's all very visceral, to me at least.

Still my favorite camera body. It was awesome with the grip. If that
Phillips sensor had worked, they would have built the MZ-D as a single
piece body just like the MZ-S with the grip. Full frame, 6MP,
beautiful camera, and far too expensive to buy. The stuff that dreams
are made of.

MZ-S came in today. I can see why people love it.
Reminds me of my Vertex VX-150 HT with that slanted control set.
The grip feels better (to my hand) than the
K-x, *istDS, or K100D that I've owned.
At least that's my first impression.

If I still shot 135 film I might be tempted to keep it ... what a gem.
