Hi,

thanks to everybody who responded to this request for information. So
it seems like the thing to do is drink beer and eat chips*. No change
there, then.

Although to be fair, there are some nice beers around in the US. Sam
Adams is quite a pleasant brew, as are the Gordon Biersch beers.
Also, the SF Steamer beer is worth a taste.

*sigh*

ObPentax: Does the MZ-S have interchangeable focus screens? Are they
the same size as the Z-1p screens?

I don't know about things to do and see, but make sure you try some
beer! Anything that looks like champagne but the label says beer should
be top-of-the-world quality.

And this from a guy who lives in Germany... :-)

Here's a crazy idea... does anyone want to start a database of sorts for
interesting photo sites around the world, sorted by country (and, where
applicable, by state)? I'm sure there are lots of online tourist sites
with excellent lists of the basics and the obvious, but I'm thinking more
of the 'hidden' places that only local photo-geeks are likely to know
about. :) I'm sure we could all add at least one or two locations to a
guide like this, and it could be interesting to see what sort of
photo-worthy sites there are around the world--or in our own
backyards--that we might not have known about otherwise.

Any thoughts or volunteers?

As sunset approaches, the Grand-Place fills with interesting people
spread around its edges eating and hanging out.

Mannekin Pis is a kitschy photo-op not too far away.

The art deco cafe Falstaff is a classic (great place to break for a
Chimay, too).

Rue des Bouchers (think that's the right one), just a few blocks from
the Grand-Place, is crammed with neon-illuminated restaurants. The
food can be good (but overpriced), however the visual scene is more
interesting. At dinner-time, the place is crammed with tourists and
the restaurant hosts all try to get them to sit down endlessly.

Stop in at Frite-Land (also off the Grand-Place) for fresh Frites!

Hope you get a chance to try moules-frites and Belgian beer. The
Belgians really know how to eat!

I'd like to see any suggestions, too - I'll be in Brussels in a
little more than a month (primarily for the Belgian GP, but we'll
have sightseeing time on Thursday and Monday).

OT: Things to do in Belgium...

2001-07-23 Thread Bob Walkden

Hi,

I'm taking a day-trip to Brussels (Bruxelles) on Saturday to see the
Salgado exhibition at le Botanique before it closes and moves somewhere
a bit more difficult for me to get to.

I should have about 10 hours in Brussels and I won't be spending all
that time in the exhibition, so I'll be taking a camera and will prowl
the streets with my photographer eyes switched on. Does anybody have any
suggestions for interesting places to photograph people doing
interesting stuff, please? (this is my 1st time in Brussels).

Cheers and tia,

Bob
