Hi Richard, I have to second most of the statements of the other german Pentaxers. Martin Trautmann wrote: ... Freiburg is a less known, but interesting spot. Less means mainly Japanese tourists, while the Americans stick to Heidelberg ;-) Maybe you should have a trip from Freiburg to KAISERSTUHL. It's a small hill nearby with vulcanic origin. Breisach is a nice town with a lot of premises with good wine ! How do you travel around? What do you look for? Nürnberg has some interesting views of the old, rebuild town (castle, wall etc.). I can't tell you any really interesting spots in Erlangen, although I've studied there for several years. That's unfortunately true. As I'm born and lived almost 30 years in Erlangen I know this very well. The buildings in Erlangen are relatively new and therefore not so attractive. There are a lot of buildings from Siemens company as it's the hometown. Only in mai/june there is an annual fair at a hill which is very nice. But it's already over. But a trip to the franconian suisse ( fraenkische Schweiz ) about 20 km in the north, would be nice for taking pictures. There is river ALTMUEHL with a nice valley and also some impressive caves around. A lot of fun and good weather for your trip ! regards Bernd - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Traveling in Deutschland
Dear German PDMLers, Sorry to hi-jack this thread, but I have a few questions that are bothering me. I've been visiting Darmstadt for the past month or so and before I came, I got all excited about the supposedly cheap camera gear here. I guess I must have been unlucky because Darmstadt doesn't seem to have many good camera stores. (Noone here's heard of the Voigtlaender!) So my question is, where do German PDMLers shop for their camera gear? I've found technikdirekt.de but since it only costs a tiny bit more to ship to the UK, it kinda defeats the purpose of me picking up some cheap gear whilst I'm here. Also - heresy alert - would I be correct to assume that the Voigtlaender Bessa cameras and lenses are cheaper here than in the UK? And if so, where would I find them? Sorry if I've offended the Pentax users here, but my lust for wider lenses has driven me to the option of range-finder-style cameras. But fear not, I do own two ME Supers, one MX, winders for all three, plus eight SMC Pentax lenses. Yours, Frank. -- Francis Tang, Postgraduate Research Student, LFCS, Edinburgh. Munich is a rich, wealthy town. The main focus on buildings may be baroque style, while almost anything else is visible, too (e.g. a 'Chinese' Tower in the beer garden of the 'English Garden' with 'Bavarian' brass musique). Since your main focus is on South Germany, I'd recommend e.g. Regensburg (old and narrow town, not really what you would call pretty, but very appealing to me). More picturesque towns may be Dinkelsbühl or Rothenburg o.d.T. Have a look in, when you come to Freiburg :-) And Basel in Switzerland is even closer than Strassburg in France.
