According to Carl Shipman's "How to Select & Use Pentax SLR Cameras" (HP
Books, edition with 1980 as the last copyright date), the Pentax K1000
specifications are:

Magnification: .87 with 50mm lenses, life-size with 55mm lenses
Viewfinder shows 95% of the frame

The same book lists .88 with 50mm lenses and 95% of the frame for the K2
DMD, .95 and 92% for the ME/ME Super, .95 and 95% for the MX, and .85 and
92% for the MV-1.

Keith,
I'll save you the trouble: the coverage figure is not in there, either.

Keith,

And my buddy at Pentax cannot find a spec sheet with the info on it. He says
he thinks he may have one around somewhere, just can't quite put his finger
on it.

I'm tellin' ya, it's a conspiracy. :-)

It DID say "magnification" and I transmogrified the word into angle of
view, changed the decimal point, and the lot. Sighhh.

Oh. Yes. I apparently soomed right by that, too!

No, just kidding. I caught the humerous part, but merely typed the
very first word that came to mind.

I guess not coverage per se, but what part of the negative matched the
screen image.

They didn't publish it as far as I know. I've never seen a published value
for coverage for the K1000. Of course I may simply have missed it. (If
you've seen it, Keith, where is it, and what is it?) Does anybody happen to
have an original _Modern Photography_ camera test of the K1000? I have the
1979 and 1980 _Moderns' Buyers Guides_ and the K1000 is not in those, just
the MX and ME.

Sample variation for coverage makes no sense at all to me. I don't think
they could do that if they tried. I can, however, believe that the spec was
changed from run to run, which would account for the lack of a published
claim. (And maybe that amounts to the same thing Bill was trying to say.)

was a closely guarded secret during the cold war, and now no one can located
