Re: Which bodies are worth keeping?
Larry, like others said - ME Super is the most attractive for its bright and big viewfinder. The ZX-10 and ZX-50 are probably worth letting go, and if I am not mistaken ZX-50 has a crippled mount. I don't have much clue about P* cameras, but Super Program seems like a nice one... And K1000 is an icon... I'd probably keep ME-Super if I planned to shoot film and K1000 for props... If you have an old but good flash - you might want to keep Super Program. Re: Which bodies are worth keeping?
I'd keep the K1000, and either the Super Program or ME-Super. I can't see keeping both, and I'd have to decide between the superior viewfinder in the ME vs the Automation (program mode), in the Super Program. The others are barely worth selling going for not much more than $30 to $50. They are pretty much disposable. Which bodies are worth keeping?
Larry's words: I'm attempting to do a much needed cleanup of the closet that I use to keep my photo and camera gear. A few years back I used to peruse craigslist for interesting Pentax gear. A lot of the interesting lenses came with film bodies. Plus, I got a couple from my mom. As such, I've got an assortment of film bodies that I've never even used. P30t (AE?) P5 (AE?) MEsuper K1000 I'd guess that the two worth keeping would be the K1000, for simplicity, and the ZX-50 for features. Larry, the only Mz/ Zx bodies I'd be interested in would be the 3 and the 5n, and I'd think twice since the 5 viewfinder is smaller and hard to use in dim light. The K1000 may be praised by many, but I'd let it go - almost no info on the finder, lightmeter always on and rather big size. The Me Super I'd possibly keep as disposable camera *if* paired with a cheap but useable lens, otherwise sell it since the Super Program would be staying. The P's would go too, just because the Super Program would be staying. Any of those 3 could be staying otherwise, Me Super last to go. I'd try to keep the Super Program due to its features, small size and interesting viewfinder. Assuming all cameras in the same condition, of course. Now if you had a Mx or a Lx... those are Keepers, Capital K, IMHO. That said, if you decide otherwise I'd give the Super Program a good home (no pressure). By all means, choose the one you feel like using, or the one you feel more attached to, or both if you feel like using one and like the other's history. lf -- luiz felipe luiz.felipe at luizfelipe.fot.br -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: Which bodies are worth keeping?
For me, I'd keep just the shiniest, most interesting cameras and sell or trash the rest. Then only use them as props in model shoots. :-) On Thu, Jan 3, 2013 at 8:15 PM, Larry Colen wrote: > I'm attempting to do a much needed cleanup of the closet that I use to keep > my photo and camera gear. > A few years back I used to peruse craigslist for interesting Pentax gear. Re: Which bodies are worth keeping?
Regards film cameras I have only mechanical, manual exposure bodies (if they have meters at all). Of the set you have above, I'd keep the K1000 or acquire an MX, sell the rest. It's my film photography ideal ... when I'm working with film, I'm taking my time and shooting, thinking carefully about what I'm doing and making the settings explicitly. All the automation stuff obfuscates what I'm trying to achieve: simplicity, a return to how I used to work a camera when I was in high school but with the 40+ years of practice and experience since to back me up. When I want automation, I want digital capture. Then I can see what the automation is doing and correct it if/when it's gone over the edge. You likely have other ideas. ;-) G On Thu, Jan 3, 2013 at 5:15 PM, Larry Colen wrote: > I'm attempting to do a much needed cleanup of the closet that I use to keep > my photo and camera gear. > A few years back I used to peruse craigslist for interesting Pentax gear. Re: Which bodies are worth keeping?
I agree with Bob. The Super Program and ME Super are keepers. I bought my ME Super used in 1984 and I'm still putting film through it. I got my Super Program from another list member some years back, and it is also very good. The P5 (and presumably the P3t as well) are prone to failure because the main circuit board is under the shutter release. Pressing the button bends the board a little each time and eventually causes it to crack. Mine started to go after about a dozen years of use. Also does TTL flash exposure thru the lens. It's the first body using A series lenses. I shot a lot with mine. More critical users (WR) complain of mirror bounce. P30t and P5 are AE cameras. The simplified top plate is their only recommendation. I prefer retro. P5 is the more capaable of the two. Check with Boz's site for specifics. ZX - never owned any of these. Regards, Bob S.
