Re: broken flash battery door

2015-08-18 Thread Gonz
Thanks John. I'm thinking of taking it apart so I can see where the
electronics are to avoid them when adding screws to hold the little
door down. Or reducing the spring action by snipping the springs back
a little. I can't use it at all otherwise, the door will not hold the
batteries down any more.

Seems a poor design. WAY too much spring action on the batteries makes
for a very tight door, breaking the plastic guides.

I haven't run into that with the flash, but I did have the memory card
door on my *ist-D fail at the hinge. I didn't break it; I heard a sudden
"ting" noise & it was gone.

I was fortunately able to find where it had fallen & duct tape did hold
it in place until I could get a replacement.

If duct tape is too ugly, try clear package sealing tape.

Re: broken flash battery door

2015-08-14 Thread Gonz
I'm tempted to screw in a metal piece on either side to hold the door
down. I read on some forums that someone stuck a piece of metal where
the body tabs should be by getting it hot and melting the plastic to
insert it.

Purchased one from Craigslist very cheaply due to this issue ...
and a missing red plastic ... after buying a replacement plastic,
still only $35 in the unit.

I agree wrt the AF360FGZ. I had one that lasted over a decand but a
newer one saw very little use and the door will not close tightly enough
to maintain contact. I only use it as a supplemental flash indoors since
the only way I can get the door closed tightly enough to maintain
contact is to put a large spring clamp on it.
