Re: eBay funnies

2005-06-12 Thread Peter Belak
I am pretty sure I was buying from this seller. That was bad luck..
instead of mint SMC 70-210 I got non-SMC 70-200 full of fungus and
elements separation.
I got my money back after 5 weeks, but that was waste of time and energy..

I think they left out a semi-colon: DONT; MISS THIS ONE!

Reminds me of some eBoy purchases I've made lately:
Won't last long at this price! It didn't.
You'd be a fool to pass this by! Apparently, I was also a fool NOT to
pass it by. Hey nobody said the obverse was the reverse...

My latest 'mint minus' purchase was described as having 'minor cleaning
marks, absolutely won't affect your photographs' and it looks like
someone took a screwdriver to it. It hardly passes light, let alone
being able to focus accurately. But it absolutely will NOT affect my
photographs, because it absolutely went right into the parts box.
Seller's point well-taken.

Wiggy

Yep - a genuine Oscillerscope (sic), obviously used to check

Well, Cotty, thats how my Father in Law pronounces it, being
from England and all. Perhaps this dude is just spelling it
phonetically. Don't all oscilloscopes look home made?

Yeah Bill. Don't get me wrong - I would never take the piss out of anyone
for a spelling error - ME of all peeple!

I fail to see why it would be useful advertised under darkroom
accessories?

For the truly anal, it would be useful for monitoring line
voltage fluctuations which could affect exposure times.

It looks like it might be a Unilab kit construction. I (or

things like the case not ordered... If anyone acquires this and
needs bits, I can probably assist.

Check this out. Lister says, it's "New in box. NEVER

He is also advertising a 28-80 and showing a 28.

I've seen quite a few primes advertised as zooms - undoubtedly the focusing
helicoid confuses these "owners".

Re: eBay Funnies!

2001-03-26 Thread Anthony Farr

Steve Scott opined:

Steve S.

I cringe whenever I read or hear any long lens, zoom or prime, call
"telescopic" insead of "telephoto". Although some semantic analysis reveals
that telescopic (= distant vision) is more apt than telephoto (= distant
light) I am happy to follow common usage which sensibly puts the word
"photo" into the name of the photographic device. Telephoto in the context
of lenses originally meant a lens whose focal length had been made longer
(tele) than its physical length by the addition of a negative rear group of
elements to the image forming front group of elements (an internal
teleconverter).

Besides, a common usage meaning of "telescopic" is collapsible (like a
refracting telescope whose tubular sections slide over and into each other).
By this definition some standard collapsible lenses for Leicas could be
called telescopic!

Bullsh*t Baffles Brains ;-)

Anthony Farr
