Thanks for the update Christine - you read my mind - I was wondering about this. Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: Christine Aguila cagu...@earthlink.net Subject: pdml exhibit update Hi Everyone: I've received a few emails off list asking about the exhibit status. I talked to Sue late last week and learned that she's been sick with a cold/cough/high fever--a few friends and colleagues have had the same thing--bit of a bug going around here. Prior to that I think she was on vacation with her family. Anyway, she said she would be taking the exhibit down soon and that she would be contacting everyone. She said, I'm way behind on email. All the photographs are safe in the gallery, and Sue should be contacting folks any day now. I should have posted sooner about this, but I've been busy making a mess of a photo project I'm working on. Anyway . . . that story is for another time. I agree with Christine; let's move on and not dwell on it. Christine, Mark, Sue and others have put a hell of a lot of work into this and cannot be responsible for fixing things which are now outside of anyone's control. Having said that, Christine - why haven't you personally stopped the volcanic dust cloud in its tracks? (BIG GRIN!) I talked to Sue on the phone tonight, and she explained to me that there's a potential conflict in placing the CureSearch logo on the postcard because of grant money used to partially fund the expenses of the exhibit. She can work around this by doing signage, which will include the CureSearch logo, and placing said signage inside the gallery. I have no idea what the particulars of the grant are (nor care to know), but I do know grant awards are fussy. I know folks are disappointed and that this handling of the CureSearch logo is not what folks originally wanted, but I really think we should just move on. 2) Sue is fully aware that folks are very disappointed because I have told her so. In our conversation tonight, Sue *explicitly stated* that folks can email *her directly* with any further questions or comments bartongall...@sbcglobal.net 3) There's really not much more I can do regarding this situation. I can't force CureSearch to hand over their donor mailing list. I can't force PDMLers to not be disappointed. And I can't force DANK Sue to put the logo on the exhibit postcard. Given my impressive ineffectiveness here, I've decided to just move on and enjoy myself at the exhibit. I want all PDML exhibitors have a great exhibit and that their work is well received at the opening reception, and I hope folks can stay cheerful about the exhibit and rally round our PDML exhibitors. Folks, While it might be nice to snail-mail postcards to Search for the Cure doners, let's not get our knickers in a twist over it. The internet is probably a better way to reach these donors. Maybe Mark can work that end of it. My pile of daily snail-mail is daunting. And every time I make a donation sponsoring some walker/runner/trotter for cancer I get on another junk mail list seeking more donations. The worst are the ones who got your phone number and call at night soliciting. More important would be to get some local press coverage. Regards, Bob S. Re: PDML Exhibit Update
I agree, lets move on. What's done is done. Thanks for your involvement. But how is grant money involved? The exhibitors have all paid for their images. Where does grant money come into this ? Why would grant money have any effect on another worthy cause? I talked to Sue on the phone tonight, and she explained to me that there's a potential conflict in placing the CureSearch logo on the postcard because of grant money used to partially fund the expenses of the exhibit. Re: PDML Exhibit Update
Hi Ken: I don't know the specific rules of the grants Sue is using to pay for specific items, so it wouldn't be right for me to speak specifically. But you're right--no grant money is used towards the framing of the photos or supplies toward the creation of art on behalf of an artist. But to put on exhibits is a lot of money. For example, I do know that once Sue uninstalls the exhibit that is currently up, the walls have to be repainted in preparation for our exhibit--this is pretty routine. There usually is some hand painted wall signage. Food and drink. Postage for mailing (which can be very expensive). Any workman that do labor for an exhibit install have to be paid--etc etc. I really don't know what monies are allowed to be used for specific items. That's Dank's business, and I'm not going there :-). I know this isn't a complete answer to all your questions, but it's the best I can do. HTH.
