For the record- Trevor, Robert, Kevin.. if it were any more of a glamorous problem, I wouldn't have a clue! :-) Cheers, Ryan - Original Message - From: Tanya Mayer Photography [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Ryan Lee [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, January 02, 2004 2:44 PM Subject: Re: scary stuff with win 98... Bingo!!! That's what it was, yaay, for Ryan! - and it was my own fault as I actually changed that setting the other day when I was browsing a CD for a file that I couldn't find, and obviously I forgot to change it back... So, I am breathing again now, phew! Thanks for your help everyone... tan. Hi Tan, I'm not sure if you've tried this already, but it sounds like your setting to 'view all files and folders' is on when most of the time it's hidden. If this is the case, open up explorer/tools/folder options/view/do not show hidden files and folders. Not guaranteed, but worth a shot.. Cheers, Ryan
Re: scary stuff with win 98...
Sounds like you have Explorer set, via ViewFolderOptionsView, to show invisible files. A file marked invisible will appear faded so that you can see, at a glance, the difference. The c:\ and windows directory are both common places for such files to be put. This therefore may not be a problem at all. If the sight revolts you, use the Do not show hidden or system files radio button in the View tab I mentioned on the first line of my response. -Lon Tanya Mayer Photography wrote: Omigosh, I just went into Windows 98 Explorer to add some actions to my Photoshop folder, and discovered all of these icons and folders that are faded in their appearance! I am scared - this looks like virus-like activity to me, but I am totally up to date with all of my virus definitions and only just last night did a full system scan that came up all clear... Can anyone help here? tan.

G'day Tanya. Usually the icons and folders appear faded: when they have been Edit...Cut or if they are hidden or system files. You didn't press something by mistake did you? Hooroo. Is your computer overheating? Anyway, try rebooting...let us know how it goes. On my old computer, running my scanner software always did this - needed a reboot to clear it up. -- Robert - Original Message - From: Tanya Mayer Photography [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, January 01, 2004 9:28 PM Subject: scary stuff with win 98... Re: scary stuff with win 98...
Not that I know of Trevor... They *do* look exactly how you described - it is as though I have selected them all and clicked on cut, but alas, I have not, and they are in a number of different directories, and even after I clear the clipboard, they still remain... this is not good... t. - Original Message - From: Trevor Bailey [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, January 02, 2004 11:36 AM Subject: RE: scary stuff with win 98... Does not sound a big deal. Sounds like a buch of chk files generated by chkdsk. If they are chk files they can be safely deleted. If they are .txt files, you may have an issue with a virus.
