Because we can not take apart or saw through our museum objects, we need to rely on independent testing done by legitimate researchers in the field. Based on their findings we can hopefully trust that insects that can't be seen will be successfully killed in all their stages if the same procedures they used are carefully followed. I deal with books and paper so the insects and their larvae we are concerned about are quite visible under 10X magnification and do not hide inside of a three dimensional object that can not be readily opened and thoroughly inspected. Dear all, I'm very surpried, I'm using Veloxy since two months. My comment concerns especially the scientific information and the validation of the system veloxy. For two years I try to find this information but you never answer Mr Gialdi. I'm very happy now because you send me now all the information Besides, if the anoxia is validated, I ask a lot of question on the equipment of the Veloxy, for example the oxymeter (calibration). On practical questions of maintenance and calibration of the materiel. You never send me this information. I Know another user and they are a same questions. If somebody looks for complementaires information you can me write on my personal e-mail, not to block the forum. I think, it's very important to find this information in this forum when we want to buy something. A FTIR was use in the research to determine when insects species die at what ppm, temperature and in what time frame. Test were done on actual Art objects. Also about 25% of time was added as protection. Another protection to bring the ppm range lower than needed. In some cases you can see the insect after treatment in other cases like European powder post beetle you may not. Bill In a message dated 10/5/2009 10:37:18 P.M. This is a message from the Pest Management Database List. To post to this list send it as an email to pestlist@museumpests.net To unsubscribe please look at the footer of this email. --- I AM interested in this discussion, and feel it is pertinent to the list as there are not too many suppliers of the type of equipment used for this process, and those considering using it or who already have it want to know the facts concerning its effectiveness (since this has been called into question.) What do you and others feel IS the appropriate time and place for this type of question if not a public list-serve specifically about treatments for eradicating/preventing infestations of pests? When a particular discussion is not useful to me (and there are many), I just do not read it and then delete any with the same thread as soon they appear in my e-mail.
