[Phono-L] Music Library Finland/Sale of some phonograph gramophone-related items
Hello. Darren Ingram from Music Library Finland (musiclibrary.fi) here. We've a LOT of duplicate holdings we would like to get a bit of cash for (to help plough back into our operations). Please excuse the cross-posting (I will have a few of these messages but will try and categorise) them. Please do consider passing this about and don't worry, it is not going to be a weekly/monthly/or probably yearly type of posting :) If you want to keep an eye on what we have for sale, there's a MASSIVE list at www.musiclibrary.fi and look for the for sale tab. Of course, if you've got something to swap that we need (you can see our collection interests on the web site) we can work something out). Suggested donation level (can be higher if you insist) shown. Postage extra. Strange thing is that a book might be less cost effective than a box (i.e. 30kg/65lb box if we have one big enough is €124, yet a 2kg box is €31 by air- so maybe some kind friend in the U:S. can consolidate! Further stupidity by Finnish Post is that a 2kg parcel sent by letter parcel economy costs nearly €60. No, we can't figure it out either... Anyway, enough with the lecture. Here's hopefully a readable cut and paste… Any comments (clean, or with offers to buy/swap or donation of hard cash to darren at musiclibrary.fi please). - - ### Phonograph Gramophone General ### - - - - - - EXBK01 - Do You Want Six Edison Amberol Records (Worth $3.00) Free? 1850 7-1-10 1910/Edison VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT (BASED ON AGE) Original leaflet/brochure 7,99 CAT EXBK01 - Edison Music - 1919/Thomas A. For Shame ! How absolutely hideous !! - Original Message - From: Vinyl Visions vinyl.visi...@live.com To: phono-l@oldcrank.org Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2012 7:05:12 PM Subject: Re: [Phono-L] TV Show Abandoned Edison Amerola 5? If that is the best image that National Geographic can create, they need to fire their graphics person... I am not an expert PhotoShop user, but I can do better than this by a long shot. George is right, it is a Standard A image that has been flipped and squinched into an Amberola case... they didn't even bother to edit out the original Amberola horn/arm from behind and below. I particularly like the nice touch of adding an external horn in an internal horn machine, or maybe this was one of those rare phono finds on eBay. Interesting. The image appears to have been photoshopped with a mechanism from an Edison Standard A - reversed! Who says you can't believe advertising? I have seen an ad several times on the History Channel for a new showcalled Abandoned. Apparently these guys go into old buildings that have been abandoned for decades and look for treasures. One item that they show in the ad is an Edison floor model machine thatthey identify as an Edison Amberola V. You can clearly see that it has an internal horn, but they have imposed a witches hat horn on it as well. They value it at $2,300.00. Has anyone else seen this ad? ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org
Re: [Phono-L] an interesting price for al self a.k.a. SEFL
Hi Guys! I just got back from one week in Boston and a 5 week cruise to Europe so am answering this posting late. Yes, that is Leah Burt's copy and I do hope she is OK. She was a great help. I had trouble selling the book at $20 which was a small loss on each copy. I cannot imagine anyone buying a copy for $500. Somewhere I have a couple of copies that George and I signed in case anyone ever asked for an autographed copy by both authors. I know of only 10 copies signed by both of us. My ego was never tied up in the book so I only signed copies when asked to do so. When I did it usually was something sappy like, May all your finds be rare ones! Truly it was my hope that every collector would find something truly spectacular, rare, and maybe something the book missed completely. At the time I was only missing a few machines to complete my collection. My payoff for the book were the machines I needed like a Triumph C and G. I usually put my want list into each book. God bless my fellow collectors they came through! The books sold by me were specially stamped and numbered for U.S. sales, books 1 to 1000. Only about 800 copies were sold as 200 were water damaged and crushed in shipping. George's idiot printer failed to insure them or pack them safely and that took away any profit. Those copies that George had were begun to be numbered sometime later and the second thousand copies he started with copy 01 so Leah's copy at 05 was really 1005. I hope those who still have copies continue to enjoy them. If they helped someone NOT to buy a conglomeration of odd parts then I am happy. Kindest regards to all on the list, Al Sefl ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org
