records on Victor phonographs.  The stylus is sapphire which wears and I have
never seen a good one.  Either broken or worn.  Diamonds are expensive these

have any diamonds unless I order more.   Duo-Vox had diamond styli.  Made by

Subject: [Phono-L] information needed  Listers: I recently
painted a Edison Standard A bedplate and a couple of parts, which were a
“disaster!”. I am looking for someone who does the decals or paints the corners
and or gold pin striping. Items after doing such. Does someone have a referral
for plating phono parts? Any comments or contacts, is appreciated.  On another
note: I was discussing with a phono friend about an adapter I have which fits
on a Victor tone arm in place of the original, which plays diamond Discs. I
have the only one I have ran across. He may be interested in obtaining such. In
the event someone knows what I am referring too, or has one they are willing to
part with, please let me know Thanks in advance. Bob Maffit

If wiped off in a timely manner, water with GO JO will not hurt, but help
the finish on the machine. My God, these machines are over 100 years old.

[Phono-L] Billy Murray on Film?

2009-10-13 Thread Kuglarb
Does anyone know if Billy Murray was ever filmed? I have heard that Ted
Turner owns the exclusive rights to the only footage that was taken of Billy,
and that was a cameo in a short film. Anyone having any information at all
would be greatly appreciated!

Also, was Ada Jones or Aileen Stanley ever on film? Thanks to all that
have responded to my questions over the months. Your valuable information and
input are very much appreciated. Let's all continue to do our part in
keeping this wonderful hobby alive and spinnin'!

I strongly recommend the three Volumes of hit of the week records on CD.
They are the best! True quality sound and the best part are the booklets.
The booklets are loaded with history, not only the hit of the week history,
but artists and tune history. The fourth volume is forthcoming and should
capture the remaining songs in the series.

These CDs are so great that I listen to them at work on a regular basis!

Re: [Phono-L] What A Beauty On Ebay!

2009-08-17 Thread Kuglarb
Steve,

All I can say is that they are mighty proud of their Edisons! It reminds
me of a local antique shop in Aiken, S.C. Just last week, an Edison 30
without the grill went for a whopping $875.00. I guess the buyer thought he
got
a real bargain since $1850.00 was the original asking price, but marked
through with $875.00 on the price tag. I just participated in a local museum
Collector's Day by displaying about five of my machines. I got a lot of oohs
and ahhs. The one thing that I encouraged future collectors to do is to
join a group or club. This will help provide the knowledge to help keep from
paying too much or getting ripped off.

Most people don't have a clue and just buy on impulse. Take care all and
help me find a Nipper please. Thanks ever so much.

[Phono-L] What A Beauty On Ebay!

2009-08-17 Thread Kuglarb
Wow, friends! Take a look at this beauty. It's bargain priced. It states
in the description, "A part is broken and missing, but does not affect the
playability or beauty." At this price, one can stand a part or two missing
I'm sure!

Ebay item number 180396054703

PS - I've got a William and Mary that I'd sell cheap, and with lots of
Diamond Discs!

Re: [Phono-L] Oxford Jr. Crapophone

2009-07-28 Thread Kuglarb
Hey, I agree, but keep in mind many people buy items at yards sales, estate
sales, and yes, the auction block, and have no clue what they are buying.
Then, they go to that ever so friendly, ever so wholesome auction site ebay,
and sell it. Many times, these seller 'don't know what they do'...They
don't know a Crapophone from a Victor VI. I don't go to ebay anymore, but due
to all of the commotion with this Oxford Jr. I went to see. Yea, curiosity
got the old cat. Hey, that little contraption looked impressive and I
believe the seller did his best to describe what he thought he was selling.
Let's just believe that the buyer saw something that he liked, and bought it.

A great many buyers haven't a clue what they are buying. They've got the
money, some sellers have the products, even if they are Crapolas.

Re: [Phono-L] An ebay seller you do not want to deal with -- recorddiva7

2009-07-09 Thread Kuglarb
Again, and again, and again...EBAY IS ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY. They don't
give a rat's you know what about the true legit buyers and true legit
sellers. Just think how easy it is for someone to make some easy cash by
defrauding people on ebay. They do it every day. Sure, ebay 'sugar coats' and
'soothes the stomach' with such antics as "Pay Pal is our sure way of helping
anyone being cheated. It's so good, we now require it!"

It's up to everyone to WEAN from ebay and stop the all of the nonsense.
This is a two fold thing here:

 - First of all, you completely eliminate being cheated or taken by crooks.
 - Secondly, if all comply, ebay will go out of business

Both of these is what I strive for!

There are so many fellow collectors, both phonograph and record, that
provide fantastic networks for all in the hobby to buy and sell within. It has
been said before, the pristine machine, or the rare record located in Aunt
Betsy's attic are long gone days.

The networks entwined with shows and club meetings provide the greatest
resource for what we in the hobby want and desire. Let's face it, ebay with
all of its promises, glitter, and gleam does not provide one with the
opportunity to hold, try, or truly get a feel of the item being advertised.
Not
prompting this, but I bet (and I'm not a betting man either!) if a poll was
taken, more that few have gotten burned, cheated, or disappointed with an ebay
transaction. I know being both a buyer and seller, I have been.

All take care and again, wean, wean, wwen from ebay. It will do a
heart, mind, and soul good!
