[Phono-L] Midnight, The Stars, and You

2013-11-26 Thread Kurt Nauck
Not only did we have a very nice copy in our auction that just closed
3 weeks ago, Brian and I featured it in the Bidder Request Show. It
sold for $37.87

The next copy I find I'll put on eBay for the benefit of all those
who don't get our catalog!

You and everyone else, Brantley! I, too, have been searching for
this one. The last one that came up on eBay sold for over $300 -
which out bid me.

Cheers!

Will (Chicago, IL)

[Phono-L] Phonos for Sale

2013 Greetings!

I recently purchased a couple of large record collections, and now it
looks like I'm going to have to make room for several thousand 16

records).

and record loader

Oak Edison Amberola 75
Mahogany serpentine cased 15 Reginaphone with base cabinet

able to deliver them myself.)

The VRA 52 Bidder Request Show begins Saturday morning at 11AM CST.
It is 7 hours in length and will loop continuously until Sunday

Brian and I played over 100 selections. You'll hear some amazing
stuff, though we were a little heavier on the
personality/novelty/dance bandy stuff this time around. Sorry about
that, just too many great records we couldn't help but listen to

[Phono-L] Massive Stuff Blowout!

2012-09-30 Thread Kurt Nauck

Greetings All,

Many odds and ends (some odder than others) have been piling up
around here for a long, long time and it's time to clear the shelves
to make way for a couple of large, recently purchased record collections.

So I've posted about 100 things on eBay, and there is much more to
come. Search on nauck3, or go to

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=_in_kw=1_ex_kw=_sacat=0_okw=_oexkw=_adv=1_udlo=_udhi=_ftrt=901_ftrv=1_sabdlo=_sabdhi=_samilow=_samihi=_sadis=200_fpos=_fsct=LH_SALE_CURRENCY=0_fss=1_fsradio=%26LH_SpecificSeller%3D1_saslop=1_sasl=nauck3_sop=12_dmd=1_ipg=200

You'll find parts, needle tins, phonographs, records, tapes, Nippers,
music rolls, cylinder cases, record sleeves and much more. Thus far,
everything opens at $1 with no reserve, with the exception of a
Garrard 301, an Edison Concert (Opera) Phonograph and a super-sweet
Columbia dealer needle display box. First round closes this evening!

[Phono-L] Victor 10-50

2012-03-15 Thread Kurt Nauck
I just picked up a nice Victor 10-50. The cabinet and finish are in
good shape, original grill cloth, original record loading spindle, 2
albums (1 10 1 12)

The mechanism works, though the pot metal parts have not been
replaced. It is missing the little roller at the top of the record
changing arm. The reproducer is also pot metal, but appears to be in
good condition and looks like it would sound ok. Problem is, the
little ball bearings are gone so the needle bar is loose.

It is possible that I could deliver this machine on a future trip;
otherwise, I can load it on a pallet and freight it straight to the buyer.

Best offer over $1K; email me if you would like to see pictures.

[Phono-L] Triumph

2011-01-13 Thread Kurt Nauck

Hey there Bill

I have a beautiful, 100% original Banner front Triumph with 2/4
minute gearing, vertical carriage, O reproducer and cygnet horn. The
pinstriping is great, original finish and decal - the whole works.
Best of all, no one has monkeyed with it, so you also get the original grime.

There is only one problem as far as I can see -there are 2 sets of
holes drilled in back for the cygnet horn mount. Not a big deal, and
easily fixed by someone who knows what they're doing. Not that it
would really need to be fixed; in fact, 2 of the extra holes are
covered by the bracket.

And here's the icing on the cake - on the front is a celluloid
dealers tag from the Jacot Music Box Company, New York!

I'll bring my camera in tomorrow and take some pictures. Let me know
if you're interested.

[Phono-L] Once upon a time,

2010-12-10 Thread Kurt Nauck
I visited the home of a long-time collector in New Jersey. He had
passed away, and his sister was handling the estate. She told me that
some months earlier, a particular fellow showed up to look at the
collection (presumably at her invitation). He was given access to the
rooms containing the phonographs and records. He wound up buying some
records from her, but when he was loading up, she noticed that he had
also helped himself to some other items that were not part of the
deal. She confronted him about this obvious theft, he got angry,
hopped in his vehicle and took off. She didn't recover the items.

Most of the people associated with this hobby are wonderful folks
that you could let loose in your collection while you went grocery
shopping. But not all.

[Phono-L] Collector's Guide to Victor Records

2010-11-19 Thread Kurt Nauck
As Steve said, it is now available. I picked up copies from the
printer in Boston last week, and the book is fabulous.

Here is the brochure blurb:

The Collector's Guide to Victor Records (2nd Edition) by Michael
Sherman w/Kurt Nauck

7 x 10, 288 pp with 850 full color illustrations

With roots extending all the way back to the birth of the disc
recording industry, Victor reigned supreme throughout the 78 rpm era.
Herein lies the story of Victor's standard-catalog 78 rpm record
label, traced from Berliner (its predecessor) to the demise of the 78
rpm format. All four of Victors standard label colors (Black, Red,
Blue Purple) are documented in detail along with all changes made
to the Victor label throughout its 60 year run.

The second section of the book highlights many of the notable
singers, personalities and world leaders who recorded for Victor,
leaving a priceless, treasured legacy for future generations.
Included are such luminaries as Enrico Caruso, Leopold Stokowski,
Will Rogers, Nellie Melba, King George V, Charles Lindbergh, Theodore
Roosevelt, Harry Lauder, Adelina Patti, Amos Andy, Robert Peary and
dozens of others.

The Victor Talking Machine Company (later RCA Victor) produced
countless recordings outside their normal domestic catalog issues.
The third section features ethnic recordings, imports, picture discs,
puzzle records, subsidiary labels such as Bluebird and Zonophone,
contract pressings, pattern labels, long-playing Program
Transcriptions, vanity issues, childrens records, test pressings,
radio transcriptions, demo records, soundtrack discs, client labels,
in-house recordings and sample pressings. There's even a page devoted
to errors and imitation records!

The fourth section includes pictures of record sleeves, company
catalogs, supplements and other Victor publications in addition to
record release charts, rarity guides and a comprehensive bibliography
and index. One would expect a compendium such as this to be dull and
lifeless, but Sherman and Nauck's engaging style, attention to detail
and brilliant label images make the story come alive. The entire book
is profusely illustrated in resplendent full-color, and will be
equally at home on the coffee table or the reference shelf. No
archive or serious collector should be without it.

$39 Softcover or $60 Hardback (Limited Edition of 500, signed numbered)
Add $5 for shipping; check, credit card and paypal accepted.

You may order from Nauck's Vintage Records, na...@78rpm.com

And yes, all the Victor picture records are listed and shown,
including one or two you have never seen before!

phonograph is being sold by Reverse Auction, which means the price
goes down $100 every day. You can see the machine and its current
price at http://www.78rpm.comwww.78rpm.com

Our Resource Catalog is now fully updated! All books, discographies,
turntables, audio equipment and record supplies are now posted, and
many prices have been reduced. Additionally, we have 35 different
sizes and shapes of Stanton 500 styli available ranging from .75 to
5.0 mil in both Truncated Conical and Truncated Elliptical configurations.

Vintage Record Auction 47 will be going to the printer this month.
Send me an email if you would like a copy; if you've been dropped due
to inactivity, $15 will get you back on the mailing list. (Or you can
access the auction at no charge on our website.) As always, we'll
have roughly 10,000 78s, cylinders, Diamond Discs and radio
transcriptions for sale, including many true rarities.

And last but not least, the 2010 ARSC Conference will be held in New
Orleans May 19-22. It's a great opportunity to meet some fascinating
people and hear some interesting presentations. Go to
