   Translated to Arabic

 Index: phpdoc/ar/preface.xml

 ?xml version=1.0 encoding=iso-8859-1?

Encoding can't be the right one...

should be iso-8859-6 iirc

And Jouni, the stylesheets do not support the 'ar' language out of the
box, do you know what is needed to make it work?

Turkish is already supported, also korean (but the subdir should be
renamed ko), and hk seems to have own versions of the needed. If they were
sent to Norman Walsh too, it will probably appear in some future version
of the stylesheets. So that leaves arabic.

There was some guy on the list a few months ago who spoke about a hebrew
translation. Has anyone heard about him after that?

tr, ko are already in DocBook CVS so they will be part of next release
(may be, some of them are part of current release).

The best way is to create Arabic version of file

I know, I asked Norman.

and send it as a patch to DocBook project on SourceForge. From this file
are generated localizations for DSSSL and XSL stylesheets. For DSSSL
stylesheets you should also make arabic version of

 http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/docbook/dsssl/common/dbl1en.dsl

Where are defined other subtle things related to localization.

I'll try to help Salah with this whenever I can, but I think your
knowledge is needed at some phase.

But I'm not sure wheter Jade and JadeTeX support right-to-left text, so
if it is possible to get printed version of Arabic documentation.

Maybe one more reason to switch to an XSLT-based solution.
