Re: [pinhole-discussion] Zone Plate Image Generator

2000-12-27 Thread Larry Fratkin
Benno,
I guess it needs more instructions. I'll put some together and put them on the
page. Basically, the width and the height are MM and tell what size film you're
going to. Then the focal length is the distance between the zone plate and the
film. The number of rings is up to the user. The resolution, DPMM, should be
around 100 to get a good image. That translates to roughly 2500 DPI. Are these
good enough instructions? Anyone want to add or comment on them?

Worked for me I just don't know all the proper numbers to put in for a
real zone plate. But with guess work I got an image of a zone plate when I
opened the file in Photoshop.

Folks, I have created a zone plate image generator so that I could
make my own zone plates. The program downloads a .BMP so it's PC centric, I
think. The idea was to use the program to generate a zone plate image and then
take it to the bureau to have it put to film. They charge about $15.00 for
this. I haven't tried it out yet so I don't know how well it works. I'll be
visiting them on Friday and I'll drop it off then. The calculator/generator is

john,
Yes, I did put a few hours into this, but it was fun. Thanks for appreciating
that.

What were the settings you typed in? I'd like to repeat them to see what I get.
Also, sometimes you really have to look for the zone plate in the middle of the
image.

[pinhole-discussion] Recommended Exposures onto Paper

2000-12-27 Thread Bob Jennifer

Hi,

I am new to the digest and to pinholing. I have successfully made a
nice little super wide PinHolga and am on to a superwide Leonardo
now. I would like to throw some photographic paper into the Leonardo
to do some test exposures and was wondering if anyone has woked out
an ASA equivalent for photographic papers.

I will be using Ilford FB paper.

Any help is always greatly appreciated.

Also, did anyone notice the fantastic pinhole photos in the
September (I think) issue of Aperture mag? This is what brought me
to pinholing.

take care and enjoy,

Re: [pinhole-discussion] Re: PRINT SWAP: Self-portrait as the topic?

2000-12-27 Thread Levi N Brown
I love the idea of a print swap! Count me in!

There has been some debate on having a theme of self portraiture. I
think that this is a fantastic idea. For those of you who prefer to
leave your artistic opportunities open, opting to have no theme, consider
this. A self portrait doesn't have to have the photographer in it.
Anything, so long as it reflects the photographer (the self) in some
way, is a self portrait. For a self portrait assignment in school I once
photographed a grisly dead opposum. It was a lovely reflection of my
depressed side, and I later sold it to some guy in Florida who collects
images of roadkill (he said that since his sister was killed in a hit and
run accident he has developed an interest in the subject... I don't
beleive him... but it makes a good story)

Anyway, I think that self portraiture is a great idea. It forces us to
look a subject that we often shy away from. Ourselves. There is
somthing wonderful about looking at an image of yourself and saying who
is this person?

That is my take anyway...
