Re: [pinhole-discussion] Help! from the Girl Scouts
Hi, it's me Lonnie again. I forgot to mention: The 0.018 hole can be made with a simple #10 sewing needle. I used a hobby drill with a 0.018 bit and drilled in a thin piece of brass. I feel this aperture size is the most optimal for a 4x5 camera with a normal focal length. Lonnie
Re: [pinhole-discussion] Help! from the Girl Scouts
Dear Girl Scouts: I would like to help out the Girl Scouts of America. I'm glad your experimenting with pinhole photography. I like to see more people using color negative film. There are several professional custom photo labs in your state that would process your film. I believe you said New York. I sort of skimed your message. I built a normal focal length 4x5 camera with an 0.018 hole with an f/360 aperture. With an ISO 100 film in bright sunlight you could use 4 seconds. When using color negatives if you over-expose a stop you will get a richer negative. Try 8 seconds. I have a booklet that I would like to give you, that explains the camera I built and information and history on pinhole photograph. I have one I would like to give to you free, if you respond. My e-mail is photoe...@aol.com. You can contact me by snail mail @ PHOTO-ED, Lonnie Paulson, P.O. Box 80305, Minneapolis, MN 55408. If you still have questions about labs, I can research some labs in your area. Anything else I can do for the Girl Scouts? I like those new oatmeal frosted cookies. Lonnie Paulson

[pinhole-discussion] joycam
hi all I converted my Joycam to a pinhole camera. Just removed the mirror and drilled a small hole in the top of the camera, where I placed a small sheet from coke can with a pinhole approx. 0.3mm of diameter. The f-stop is ~f200. The mirror was removed easily and I hope I can reinstall it, if I ever want to use original Joycam. I glued with epoxy glue a 1/4 nut under the Joycam lens. Shutter is just a piece of electrical black tape. The trick was opening the pinhole for exposure, as in bright daylight the exposure was 1/4 sec. I found out that first removing the tape and in the same time placing my finger over the hole and doing the exposure just with my finger and then doing the opposite, gave the best results. Just removing the tape causes so much vibrations and as the time is so short, the pictures are all very unsharp. Works well, pity that the Polaroid 500 film is so expensive (2-pack abt. $16 here in Finland). Here's a picture taken this evening with pinhole-Joycam: http://www.sci.fi/~mjkoskin/vgallery/oldwood.jpg best -matti mjkos...@sci.fi http://www.sci.fi/~mjkoskin/vgallery/oldwood.jpg

Re: [pinhole-discussion] Pinhole and lith printing -What is a lilth?
In a nutshell: Lith printing is a darkroom process using the usual developer/stop bath/fixer procedure with silver-based emulsion on paper, but using a particular chemestry for the development stage (see earlier emails on this thread). Iris is a digital printing process. Hope this helps, Guy jmeyerh...@aol.com wrote: Sorry about the blank email..What is a lilth and what is an iris/ Please,thanks...jm ___ Pinhole-Discussion mailing list Pinhole-Discussion@p at ??? unsubscribe or change your account at http://www.p at ???/discussion/

The URL is: http://www.pinholeday.org Everyone is invited to take a look and let us know what you think. Please keep in mind that although much of the site is ready, there is still quite a bit that is under development. Much of the English content has been translated into Chinese, Deutsch, Dutch, Español, Français, Japanese, Polski, Serbian, Slovensko, and Svensk. But, not all the pages have been translated. The translations are an ongoing part of things. We didn't want to delay too long, letting everyone see the site. We would appreciate any feedback - especially any problems you encounter, before we start promoting the site. So, for now, please look around and let us know what you think and any problems you find. Guy Glorieux will soon ask for everyone's help in promoting WPPD and the web site. This is really happening and everyone's help and input will make the difference on how big an event it will be. :) Gregg _ Pinhole Visions at http://www.p at ??? ___ Pinhole-Discussion mailing list Pinhole-Discussion@p at ??? unsubscribe or change your account at http://www.p at ???/discussion/

I was relying on rental darkrooms in the meantime - and still do for my color work. But for all my exhibition work, I use rental facilities, because there is more room to move around and do really large format stuff. But it sure is nice to be able to do some work at home, whether it's a dedicated darkroom or just a closet! Cheers, Guy

Guy Glorieux wrote: I don't have a standard print of the lith print I posted yesterday. But I just posted a lith print of a pinhole image I had already uploaded earlier this year on the gallery (Rose in winter). To see the difference, check: http://www.p at ???/discussion/upload/images/lithroselr.jpg http://www.p at ???/discussion/upload/images/roseinwinter2.jpg Yes, I've seen the long prints on your site. That's a neat concept for the camera. The 2 versions of Rose in Winter are a great example of the differences (along with your description of what didn't make it through the scanning process). Both prints are nice, but there is a special character to the lith print that I really like. It makes me wish I had room for a darkroom! Mike
