[pinhole-discussion] direct positive BW paper

2001-11-26 Thread Jack Duganne
Anyone have any info about direct positive black and white papers or a
method for developing any bw papers to be positive after development?
I used to use an old Kodak paper but can't remember the name and it had it's
own chemistry. I would love to do large format or even mural size using
this process - whatever it is!
I like to use Ilfochrome for color now, but have lost the access to bulk
purchase of the papers and chemicals that I used to have. Any help there?
thanks for any help you might have...

[pinhole-discussion] 4 x 5 sheet/ 5 x 7 film loading

2001-11-26 Thread Murray
Hello:

1) Regarding Riteway type 2-sided film holders, other than ones that have
light leaks, are they safely loaded into a camera in daylight, or are they
intended for cameras with dark cloth blankets and stored in the dark?

2) I am kissing my 35 mm pinhole goodbye - I just bought on eBay a 1000 foot
roll of 5 Plus-X, so I guess I'm committed to MF (or is that LF?) now. I
loaded my own 35 mm rolls back in the 70's in school but this is different.

Any advice on what kind of a fixture to cut sheets off the roll with? I
guess they get curly at the end of the roll

Has anyone ever seen a homebrew approach to a rollback of this size? (I
guess the full roll would need a tripod of it's own).

Thanks

Murray

There's nothing to stop you from using 4x5 sheets of paper with a 4x5
film
  back right?

  No...and you can enlarge them in a 4 x 5 enlarger...and in color too.

How would you enlarge paper via your enlarger?

I taught a pinhole workshop for a local camera club this past Thursday. One
of the exposures I made was a paper negative 35mm format!! which I then
proceeded to enlarge to 6x6 size (a center portion of the negative) . I
had no problem doing so and IMO it held up OK, even when using satin finish
BW paper, glossy paper would give better results I'd assume. BTW,
focusing on the grain of the photo paper was absolutely not a problem, it
was very much like focusing on film grain.

Never enlarged paper before, it is definitely doable.
