I know that Dan recommends Pictorico and that seems to be the consensus amongst people on the Alt Photo List and other sources. I have used Epson's brand as well as a company called white shark or something like that, and they worked well. I'd image that waxed paper negatives could communicate quite a distinct look, and would pair up with pinhole negs nicely, but it wouldn't be my main mode of production. -Joe
[pinhole-discussion] evening out wax
I did some batik in school and we ironed them fabric on kraft paper to get as much of the paraffin wax out as we could. It wouldn't all come out, but what was left was quite uniform. If you need a thick layer that's uniform, I don't know. I wonder if there is a way to spray it while still hot. I think typical wax melts at 60 or 70 C. I searched for higher temp. wax for another project and found 85 C. If kitchen waxed paper works (doubt it, I missed what the project was about), extra wide rolls might be available thru industrial food supplier like Sysco. [pinhole-discussion] toning cyanotypes
Hi: I was able to tone the cyanotype T-shirts I made and inadvertently "bleached" in the laundry. I soaked them in a tannic acid solution. I did get impatient and add some vinegar - this speeded things up but changed the tone to a purplish brown, instead of a reddish brown. Will have to fiddle with toning cyanotypes now. I will wash the T-shirt again and see if the toned image tolerates laundry detergent. - Gordon J. [pinhole-discussion] mac to pc
i use a mac at work(im a snapper for a press agency) but have a pc at home i dont normally save pics in psd format preffering either tiff or hi quality jpegs instead regardless of file format i always append the file extension and have never had any problems opening files on my home pc layered items i think have to be saved as psd unless you have photoshop 6 and upward which allows you to save layered items as tiff 7 files (set this up in the preferencs folder) callum __ Do you Yahoo!? Re: [pinhole-discussion] Dan Burkholders Book
Burkholters book recommends, and I heartily agree, using Pictorico brand overhead transparency sheets. They are a good deal more expensive than ordinary ones, but they seem to be the only ones that hold the ink well enough to build density. Search for "Pictrico" on the web and you'll find it. They ship very promptly. I'm having a harder time with it getting adequate density for cyanotype han for platinum. - Original Message - From: "Mike Vande Bunt" To: Sent: Thursday, November 21, 2002 9:47 PM Subject: Re: [pinhole-discussion] Dan Burkholders Book > Perhaps this is oversimplifying it, but what about inkjet transparency > "paper"? Re: [pinhole-discussion] Waxing Paper+Brown Cyanotypes
Ben, Not to digress to much from your intention, but you can skip the cyanotype all together and create vandyke brown prints. The process is pretty much the same and photoformulary kits are about the same price. It produces a rich brown tone suited well for pinhole.
