[pinhole-discussion] "Egg" on PBS

2001-08-08 Thread Andrew Sias
Did anyone happen to catch "Egg" this past week on PBS? This weeks episode
was about people around the country making art out of everyday stuff. There
was a segment about a photography teacher in San Antonio who makes pinhole
cameras out of anything he can get his hands on. I can't remember his name
but it was very interesting. You can learn more about it at
www.pbs.org

Thanks for the dial calculator. I downloaded it and am going to make one.
I have been using something similar but it is a bit more cumbersome. I made
a long slide-rule with all of the f-stops and speeds projected beyond my
handheld light meter. The only information my slide rule has that the dial
doesn't have is that I have included f-stops and shutter speeds halfway
between each of the standard settings. For example: the extra f-stop
between f/22 and f/32 would be f/27.25. I have done this all the way up to
f/4096 and 16,384 seconds (or 4.5 hours). Most people don't need to go that
high but you never know.

I didn't realize my question would create such a stir but I am glad people
are passionate about their photography! I am planning to get into the
studio and try some different approaches. Since I am a busy high school
teacher it probably won't be until Christmas vacation. If I can get caught
up on some other things maybe it will happen sooner. Thanks to everyone who
offered their experience and expertise.

This one is absolutely beautiful; my favorite one. What size (in inches)
was the box and what did you use for your negative? I wish I could go to
the show but I'm bound to the midwest for now, not a bad place to be.

[pinhole-discussion] studio photography

2000-11-20 Thread Andrew Sias
Hello everyone,
I have an old Speedotron Brownline lighting setup and I am interested
in doing some studio photography with my 4x5 Santa Babara pinhole camera.
Could anyone offer some helpful pointers to get me started? With my 35mm, I
can set off the flash with a sync cord but how do I go about doing this
while determining the proper amount of light to use? Do I need to fire the
flash multiple times during the exposure? I would love to hear from anyone
who has experimented in this area. Have a great day.

[pinhole-discussion] new and old images

2000-10-22 Thread Andrew Sias
I have uploaded some new images from this past summer. Two of them are from
Niagara Falls and one is from the peninsula north of Traverse City,
Michigan. I have more images from Niagara to post in the near future.

the images are:

siasniagara1
siasniagara2
siaspeninsula

they can be found at:

 http://www.p at ???/discussion/upload/images/

older images of mine can be found there as well:

3drocksweb
caboose1web
pear1web
rootsweb

Any feedback is welcome. I have not been doing pinhole photography for very
long. The older images are from paper negatives scanned and inverted in
Photoshop. The newer images are from sheet film scanned and inverted in
Photoshop.

By the way, has anyone experimented with Polacolor 59 4x5 sheet film in a
pinhole camera? I have obtained good results using it in my press camera
but haven't had good results in my pinhole camera. Does it not work with
extended exposure times? Any input in this area would also be welcome.
Thanks
   Sincerely,
   Andrew Sias

[pinhole-discussion] images

2000-10-02 Thread Andrew Sias
I have a few pinhole images on my site. The site won't be up much longer
because I just got Dreamweaver and I'll scrap this site when I finish my new
one. I hope everyone enjoys these images. The anaglyph does not work well
on the web however.
Here is my site:
